Feb 2022 piano voice impressionistic
I wasn't in the mood to write today but I tried to just show up. Found a slow beat I liked, played the first piano chords over it that I liked and followed a certain pattern (I IV, ii V, iii vi). Somewhere in there another melody appeared.
Abandoned my first lyrics and took the entry from 3.2.2020 in my journal as inspiration. A visit to my parents, who live in the tropics, and one of those heartbreaking sweet/painful moments when you're aware that time is passing and you can't hold on to anything at all. I was fortunate to see them right before lockdown.
It's an abrupt ending because, like I said, I'm not in the mood and now I have a migraine. Good enough.
But here's FAWM #9, and I'm very grateful for it. If I get one more song (or maybe two) I will have beat my 2021 numbers and I'll be quite satisfied.
I might call this a tribute to the Innocence Mission, one of my favorite local bands. The music reminds me of "Happy, the End," so slow and quiet.
here with you
we walked the beach this morning
waiting for the light
I heard kingfishers calling
I saw them in the trees
the dawn was swift in coming
the silver of the sea
and if I blink it's gone
and I cannot hold on
make the sun climb the sky again
time passing by
here with you
I'm here with you
here with you
I'm here with you
the wind and rain were heavy
two rainbows in their wake
one ended in the front yard
no treasure underneath
I saw the bright blue lizard
we ate more rice and beans
and if I blink it's gone
and I cannot hold on
make the sun climb the sky again
how the time flies
here with you
I'm here with you
here with you
I'm here with you
the sunset, March the 2nd
the sunset, March the 2nd
the sun sets, March the 2nd
here with you
here with you
make the sun rise again
time's passing by
I'm here with you
I'm here with you
I'm here with you

Love the sound of that piano. Reminds me of recording songs in the music hall at camp.

This is very pretty! I really like the musical diary entry thing. So soft and gentle, full of love and memories.
Thanks for stopping by and listening to a few of my songs!

Soulful atmospheric take here with the backing texture from delays/reverbs. Light vocal really sits well on top of the piano work with the long delays. Sunset March 2nd really anchors the moment in time, which based on the liner notes was part of the goal. We always struggle to hold on to those moments, but they always seem to slip away.

There is *so* much character in that piano that I knew I was going to enjoy this right from the first note.
There's a gentle melancholy in this, and "and if I blink it's gone / and I cannot hold on" sums up how transitory our experiences are. The older I get, the faster they seem to pass by. Quietly sad, but still lovely.

There hasn't been a bad song yet! I'd call that a successful FAWM myself.
I like the chord progression and the melody a lot and the lyrics are delightfully sparse yet evocative.
