Lyrics first. If you like them, thank @toms for the leading line! Then, ok how can I squirt this out on a guitar?
I typed "sonny and cher for easy guitar" into the search, scrolled past 2.5 pages of how to play "I Got You Babe," and discovered "The Beat Goes On," which I hadn't known of before! It is a much cooler song about the uselessness of being a Luddite or not than this one is!
Further serendipity led me to this list of one hundred and five one-chord songs, https://www.musictimes.com/articles/81976/20200711/ultimate-list-one-chord-songs.htm
Dominant 7 appears to be indicated for such purposes.
all the best people, are Luddites!
they live in the Forest of Sonny & Cher
they're singing the chorus, like fey dinosaur-s
it's totally groovy
all the best people, are Luddites!
they wear the apparel of Barney & Fred
they strum guitars, like hippies in car-cars
it's very Hannah-Barberry groovy
all the best people are Luddites
but that is what I'll never be, it seems
I just can't break such pretty machines
"nothing but flowers" is nightmare dreams
all the best people are Luddites
I try to keep out of their way
I'll be complaining on an old school forum today
nothing but flowers,
nothing but flowers,
nothing but flowers,
nothing but flowers,
nothing but flowers,
nothing but flowers,
nothing but flowers

Dominant 7 chords are great for that never-gonna-resolve-so-I'll-ride-it-all-the-way-down feel.
An enjoyable lyric and a fun song.

This is just soooo clever! The title hooked me and I'm not disappointed! And if you walk down Piccadilly with a poppy or a lily... (and, THAT's a voice!)
@leka Mar 2022
Excellent! Simple groove, great lyrics & rhymes.
@nancycunning Mar 2022
I like that bouncy rhythm and the places you take your voice. The lyrics are filled with stone age optimism.
@williamjames Mar 2022
Very cool garage band type sound! Liked it a lot! The semi spoken word vocals work well with the overall song :)
@audrey Mar 2022
I really like this lively melody. It's very catchy and very singable. Great chord progression too. Good song!
@siebass Mar 2022
Really fun lowfi take on this. 2 chord songs need love too. Great rhyme on very hannah barberry. Nothing but flowers IS nightmare dreams. You can take my computers and phone from my cold, dead fingers. Great groove and execution on this. NOTHING BUT FLOWERS IS INSANITY
@mikeskliar Mar 2022
just heard this on your new bandcamp site--- what great fun!!! love that shoutout to that late-period talking heads song 'nothing but flowers' too.. ha, i'm semi-semi-luddite-adjacent, perhaps? great to hear this!
@andygetch Mar 2022
Wow. I saw this title float by a couple weeks ago and it made me smile then. LOL at the forest of Sonny and Cher where I (remember watching their corny variety show as a kid and) imagine Sonny is so much shorter many times over. Loving the askance Talking Heads song reference amidst the old time TV references. Such fun and so glad I circled back to listen!
@zecoop Mar 2022
Well, this was a ton of fun! Super stylish and yes, it is a MUCH better song. the background to this all is just hilarious and amazing. Wherever it came from, I approve and I also approve of all that you did. Wonderful and just a blast to listen to. :)
@danvaillancourt Mar 2022
This is so fun (and funny)! I like the wordplay and great rhymes. Great meta-Fawm reference with the "old school forum" reference.
@sherrycanary Mar 2022
The lyrics are hilarious.
Using the concept of Luddites for
a one chord song is brilliant.
Nothing but flowers vocal of outrageous...especially last one
I like the rhythm and finger snapping
@gm7 Mar 2022
Funny. You have to use technology to complain about technology...well done.

Great fun. Fantastic lyrics. Interesting liner notes too.
@jp123 Mar 2022
I resemble that comment.
@keithcuts Mar 2022
Lol. Barney and Fred !
Such cool images in the lyrics.
Creative one chord thing going on here
The ascending nothing but flowers was a nice touch too!
@chipwithrow Mar 2022
Very cool guitar sound and groove, fun lyrics with references I can dig. I like the story behind the song, too. Good one!
And I know that Sonny and Cher song!
@johnstaples Feb 2022
Love this! The references are a blast!! "Barney & Fred"..."Forest of Sonny & Cher"! Musically delightful too!!
@toms Feb 2022
It's so true. Great song, Elaine!
@gardeningangel1 Feb 2022
That is one solid title (I say while typing this on my corn-puter made of husks, mud, and moss). Rhyming chorus with dinosaur-s is master level lyricizing. The Beat Goes On, car-car and Hannah Barberry references took me baaaaack, man. Totally groovy ;)
@rickatfulcrum Feb 2022
"Hannah-Barberry" and related Flintstones imagery /* Monster white spit-take */
"Nothing but flowers" repeated up and into a range only your dog can hear /* Monster white spit-take */
Worth noting that *some* hippies eventually became VCs and funded Silicon Valley. Or invented the equipment.
@doglatin Feb 2022
That squirting guitar keeps poundin' a rhythm to my brain. And your lyrics put me into a trippy stone-age cartoon frame of mind. And I like it! So what's an old school forum, standing around the water cooler?
@dzdandcunfsd Feb 2022
Huge fan of not using some complex progression when keeping it simple is usually the best answer to serve the song. I saw this weeks challenge and I thought a whole four chords? that's a lot! LOL. Guitar sounds great! and this is a super fun tune and wildly catchy!
@erbaer Feb 2022
Okay. I want this song made into a movie. The point is probably something like ‘technology doesn’t have all the answers’ which may be true. I just want to hear ‘nothing but flowers’ on all my devices at once. Is that so wrong?
