I smooshed together a chord sequence and a poem of mine to see if it made a 'spoken word' thing. An interesting experiment I will try again. Discussing race on social media I *may* try again, sparingly.
As I live in the UK, some of the references are very British ( sometimes even specifically Welsh) - a Mondeo is a type of car, Joe's Ice-cream is a local brand/shop popular here in Swansea (a seaside town). Sprinkles are a popular multi-coloured addition to your ice-cream. Asda, Costa, Greggs and Taybarns are all franchise shops/eateries.
Hysterical Mondeo ride across the skies
to Joe's Ice-cream, allied proxy
with Asda, Costa, Taybarns, Greggs,
battlefields of choice.
I feel so in my troops; we race,
you, me, through each casual injustice
of the day, thoughts around work,
around Facebook.
And I don't even care three staff
in turn reserve the rules of sundaes.
I should know we don't speak openly
in Britain.
I'm grateful for sprinkles; that coin
a habitual tic, simple
smiley rainbow painting me
palatable.
My plastic cup shakes as I recount
each shunt, denial, disingenuous dismissal,
retort.
And I too claim innocence, gatekeep
shock with ice-cream. Small cold bites
check my own tone, even in this sweet truancy
from observation.
You gab light,
offer soft-shoulder shorings before
we bin tissues, drive back towards
roundabouts,
begin the search for that one true word
that remakes me un-threatening,
un-alien, un-policed,
allowed.

It works really well.. your gorgeous soft voice against lush jazzy piano chords. And the lyrics are devastating.. amazing piece of art x

Really nice piece. But I can't talk about it. Nice weather eh? How's the sprinkles?

That was beautiful. Lovely piano chords set the mood. You sing well with a unique voice that is quite enjoyable to listen to.
