After doing a number of songs on other topics the last week or so, I thought it was time to get back to an explicit political rock/blues song. This being a question I've been thinking about a fair amount, the lyric kind of wrote itself. Decided to give it a more rock/blues over-the-top feeling, with distorted blues harmonica and all. Used a drum loop, played my acoustic Guild guitar (thru a distortion pedal), harmonica (also distorted), bass, and vocals. Enjoy!
And yes, that's the sound of sirens outside my window opening this track up- captured it by accident and decided to leave it in.
When will they put his ass in jail?
we need an ending to this fairy tale
the bread of justice is getting stale
When will they put his ass in jail
when will they finally indict?
I want more then just 'they might'
He's still free, that's not right
when will they finally indict
Got to send him up the river
without a paddle
Poor baby Donald
got to take away his rattle
This ain't just politics
the last election he tried to fix
and then came January 6th
this ain't just politics
every day he's spreading hate
this goes on too long we're tempting fate
our democracy has become third rate
every day he's spreading hate
Got to send him up the river
without a paddle
Poor baby Donald
got to take away his rattle
tax fraud, voter fraud, every other kind of fraud
multiple felonies
the system is deeply flawed, if we're not moving towards
penitentiary
When will they put his ass in jail?
we need an ending to this fairy tale
the bread of justice is getting stale
When will they put his ass in jail
Got to send him up the river
without a paddle
Poor baby Donald
got to take away his rattle

It didn’t take a stable genius to figure out the subject of this song just from the title! It’s infuriating that it’s dragged on so long when it doesn’t take any deep investigation to figure out he should have been in jail years ago. And frankly I think maybe the only satisfaction I’ll get on this score will be the satisfaction of listening to your great song in the subject! When will they put his ass in jail indeed?!!

So well said. I am in total agreement with you. They've got to lock him up! He's a very dangerous man. Great song. Love the harmonica.

That harmonica distortion is the bomb, I love it! Gotta say I'm absolutely on board the lyrics, I'm quite in awe of your political rock, they always feel very natural and very on point. The mix on this is great, I love how rough and ready it sounds, the reverb on the guitar is lovely and the beat has a really punchy rhythm that keeps the track marching on. Fantastic work.

“Poor baby Donald gotta take away his rattle” lol, but can’t get any catchier/memorable than “when will they put his ass in jail?” Really great intro too, you are totally in your element here!

Oh my, looking forward to this day af. And I'm not even on the same continent, just the same planet.
That's an awesome take on the topic. Enjoyed the fun things you did with the vocal processing, and the mouth organ is so cool!
I love it when music gets political!
@jtsteam Feb 2022
A very good question, and well put! Great performance. And I like that happy accident at the start.
@jackketch Feb 2022
Love the rawness of this - I want to put some distorted harmonica on my stuff now too.
Also totally with you on the sentiment - put that mutha in jail
@stephenwordsmith Feb 2022
Good choice with the rawness and distortion - gives the sentiment a real 'grassroots' feel - is astroturfing OK if you're a musician?
The energy and passion really shines through, and the rhyming scheme and short lines lend it a real amount of punch. The catalogue of sins was a nice touch as well, bringing our imaginary narrator fully up on the soapbox and damn near ditching the guitar for a megaphone.
Pretty cool stuff.

the harmonica gives the song a chaotic drive that i like. there is a very pragmatic reason trump will not go to jail. no US president has gone to prison for crimes committed while in office. jailing trump would set a precedent and prison would become, as it has in peru, the retirement home for presidents when their diplomatc immuni ty is cancelled.
@sherrycanary Feb 2022
This is so you,Mike.
I love it.
Such clever and spot on lyrics.
Particularly like take away his rattle (snake)
Indeed, what are they waiting for?
I can only hope that Garland isn't going to do a Mueller.
Hopefully he is doing his work out of the spotlight

I love this -- some absolutely killer lines here, and the harp is great.
I've got a shirt with ITMFA. Impeach, already. I now wear it as "indict," and I'll wear it for "imprison."
@tseaver Feb 2022
Good write: the harp really underlines the indignation here. I hear orange is the new power red, BTW.
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Yes indeed! I have never seen anything like him and all that he's done. Great take!
@eric Feb 2022
Needs to be said. Thank you for saying it!
@kenficara Feb 2022
OK first of all nice harp! Good way to start a song if you ask me. :D
"This goes on too long we're tempting fate" is the best line for me, although taking away his rattle is also a great picture.
