Feb 2022 collab piano wisdom-quest
Original song by Gardening Angel and #cardchallenge backstory -- https://fawm.org/songs/126505/
Leslie: As soon as I heard this beautiful meandering piece on the piano by Gardening Angel and that they were open to adding vocals to it, I said, OH PLEASE ME, because I'm also a pianist who loves meandering across the keys and felt so in tune with the vibe.
If you look at how and why a pearl is formed, it's not really the treasure we make it out to be. It's oyster spit on pearl grit. The PR for pearls is almost as good as it is for diamonds. (Pretty, but really?)
Some folks (and I've been one of them) thrive so much on overcoming adversity that when everything's going great, they sprinkle in some sand. Not all wisdom needs to be gained by poking yourself in a tender spot to toughen up. Sometimes, you can choose to just spit that grit out.
(Gardening Angel)
It takes what you don't want
it takes a lot of love
it takes a train to cry
in the rain
cold stoned blue eyes
(Leslie)
It comes from "I don't know"
it comes and then it goes
it comes in waves and
particles of
stratifying
Light
bending round and
bending round and
bending round
Pearl grit and oyster spit
are strung and appraised
by an expert
in symmetry and lustre
though sheen is just a glamour
The truth within
is discomforting
that's where we begin
with
Time slowing down
Rinse, repeat and
rinse, repeat and
rinse, repeat until
the thought has been distilled
Rinse until you're done
and wisdom's all but won
cuz dirt under the tongue, my love
is not for everyone

This is a brilliant collaboration as the phrasing and gentle flow of the lovely piano and the flowing beautiful vocals dance beautifully together. Love it!

I like how your piano playing mimics the rising and falling of the waves. This piece gives me a sense of timelessness, the never ceasing flow of the tides. It's lovely.

I really loved the original as it was, but this turned out magical! Really amazing work here! Very captivating piece.

Oh wow, this is magical! The vocals, both spoken and sung, are captivating. The slow piano and the wave sounds give this song a dreamlike feel.
The lyrics are deep and enigmatic, especially "the truth within is discomforting that's where we begin" really hit home with me.

Beautiful flowing vibe here, captures a really dreamy quality. I'm really impressed with how the lyrics build off the music, I wouldn't have guessed the nature of the collab at all without the liner notes. Very cool tune!

I love the ethereal quality to this. It's so delicate and reflective.
@tjeff Feb 2022
I love the emotion in the vocal right off the bat. This is a beautiful mellow ballad, love the nature-like sound effects. Fantastic message as well. Love the harmonies!

Wonderful collab: the added lyrics are great extension to the original. And the layering of vocal, piano, and ambient tracks is perfect.

Wow, Leslie, I love what you've done with this!!! Those lyrics are sooo good, so... right. That last line is a knock-out. Hard-won wisdom and the perspective that comes with it. Can't believe this all started from a random voice memo! I didn't realize I'd sent you the track without the guitar part- oops! But it probably works better here, leaving more room for your gorgeous vocals. Thank you so much for this, I am absolutely delighted!!!
@rwhosings Feb 2022
Gorgeous. Will take many listening to hear all the beauty, all the lustre.

This came out so very well. I like how much the song was fleshed out from Glistening's original poem and well the metaphor was extended to fit the piano lines. You could listen to this song over and over again.

This is so slow snd delicate it really creates a statement. The waves are interesting and inspired - probably. Melody really dripping with …. Oh and then the harmonies come in. Wow! You must be very happy with this!!
