I was thinking about our lifestyle, how it flies into the face of obsessive consumption, and how it suits us to a T. I started with those iconic words proclaimed to introduce a show's sponsors and went from there.
Cold grey dawn and the snow is blowing
It’s gonna be a couple of nasty days
But the fire is crackling except there ain’t no fire
It’s just the furnace
The smell of fresh coffee drifts down the hall
Except that neither of us can drink that stuff
And forget about flapjacks and the bacon frying
They don’t concern us
‘Cause we are dry and we are warm
And for now we’re safe from the brunt of the storm
We’re happy here and we don’t feel the need to stay ahead
‘Cause we are warm and we are dry
I’m writing songs and she’s getting high
We don’t have much but we have enough to get by
And we don’t give much thought
To what is brought to you by
I don’t drive a big-ass truck with four-wheel drive
And we don’t have a hot tub though it would be nice
Our need for a dryer isn’t strong enough
For us to budget
A simple car will do me just fine
And clothes smell so good when they’re fresh off the line
Our need to consume isn’t strong enough
For us to judge it
Watching the snow fall, I dream of spring
Installing a rain garden is just the thing
That gets me going
Screening in the porch, picking up a tiki torch or two
Plant some things to eat, some flowers to admire
That’s how we keep our groove flowing

Lovely tune and song. The 'here comes the sun' thematic reference and re-contextualization is next level smart and very effective.

This is a lovely snapshot of serenity. I like the even tone of the vocals and the contrasts in the lyrics. The piano is peaceful meditation to go with the message. Gratitude is the moment.
