Joined a little online songwriting group that does Zoom sessions once a month to exchange ideas. After this month's session, I started talking with lyricist from that group who let me put some music to one of his. (Also persuaded him to jump into FAWM and give it a peek.)
It’s The Water
Darrell Landels
Dave came over on Saturday night,
He and his girl had just had a fight.
He told me her love made him feel alive,
And without her he thought he could not survive.
He asked if I had any sage advice,
I knew for our chat spirits might be nice.
So I dug out the beer and bottles of rye,
Told him none of this means he’s about to die.
I said love can make us cry or sing,
But to stay alive we need one more thing.
It’s the water we need,
For the beer and the rye.
It’s the water we need,
For the tears you cry.
It’s the water we need,
For the years that get dry
It’s the water we need…
To survive.
Dave came over the very next night,
He in his suit made a handsome sight.
While sitting in church he came to realize,
He could make her happy if he got baptized
So he took my advice deep inside his heart,
Hoping that water meant a new start.
He asked me with a wink to be his best man,
I told him I would mumbling I’ll be damned.

This had me two-stepping in the kitchen. Great rendition of fabulous lyrics. I love it that the song goes from water in rye and beer all the way to baptism. Excited to listen to more of your songs. See you next year or at 50/90.

This is a great story. The twist at the end is so cute and witty. Jeff's vocals are always so good, and they are just perfect here. The melody is really catchy. I think it's a hit! Great collab.

Nice collab! Great setting for the lyric, including the wonderful left turn from crying in the beer to baptism.

Nice! But I'm pretty sure I heard a minor chord in there somewhere! If I can't believe you about the number of chords, how am I supposed to trust you're telling me the truth!
Great vocal, Jeff, one of your best. I like the backing vox in the chorus as well. Nice lyric, James. Nice and tight, with some strong imagery. You squeezed in about as many different metaphoric usage of "water" as humanly possible, I think. :)

I really enjoyed listening! I'm a huge fan of your voice, and I think it fit the song perfectly. You really know how to put together a country song!

A classic old-style country song! Nice plot point - the water of baptism, besides all the usual water uses as detailed in the chorus.
