Feb 2022 german progressive folk
Elaine did a song last night that mentioned brambles which is super spooky as I wrote themes for all 12 songs at the beginning of Feb and when I opened my notebook this morning this song is about Bramble! So some fragments of Elaine's song https://fawm.org/songs/134474/ have been absorbed into this ... Thanks, Elaine!
I stole a line about the Whitebeam from Gerard Manley Hopkins. Hey, steal from the best, right? Whitebeam has white underside to the leaves, so they appear to flash when they wave in the wind. I also have a personal connection with Whitebeam (Sorbus aria) as several rare subspecies grow near my alma mater (and nowhere else in the world).
Likewise the bramble has a staggering 380 microspecies, so most botanists just admit defeat at identifying them and give it the basic Latin name with 'Aggregate' at the end ...
German is the title language for this song. Apolgies for the somewhat over-egged pronunciation! Let's just call it 'characterful', eh?
Sea cliffs rise out of the perspective-wide ocean plain
Chop-sided island cloaked in spindrifts of salt spray
Foraminifera ooze sediment, creating vast beds of calcerous coccoliths
Millennia-buried deep underground
But the currents still flow
Timewards, Clevewards
We'll walk and hear the ferns and thickets
Lay eyes on a bowing stem
Stop our feet like brambles
Redirect our rambles
Radiärsymmetrische Blüte
Radially symmetric flowers
Mit fünf Kronblättern
With five petals
Und vielen Staubblättern
And many stamens
Bramble
380 microspecies
With which Cro requires leisure and enthusiastic diligence to familiarise
Krähen Wäldchen
In the dene of the crow
Wind-beat Whitebeam
is flashing as in gusts
Bristol, Wilmott's, Robertson's, Houston's and Observatory
A blinking background, pulsating codes and temporal transients
Modulating the transmission of:
Beaming Brombeeren and Blackberries
Bouncing beauties bursting barriers and breaking the boundless burdens
Cro just likes the taste
Rubus fruticosus Agg.

I was attracted by the german title (little forest of the crows?).
Love the Franck Zappa vibe. Can't believe you can create such a hamonic rumble with so few intruments. Like in a Zappa song, I feel like I only understand bits of the lyrics. But it's still pretty funy.

I was initially attracted by the German title as I'm trying to listen to songs in other languages whenever possible. but what a brilliant progressive song that includes so many elements. I've always been a huge fan of Gentle Giant and Frank Zappa and some of the humour and experimentation reminded me of those golden days. great stuff.

What a fun way to represent the primordial ooze through the lens of a botany book. I also love the mix of English and German and different musical styles.

Commenting again to applaud the whistling we do as we browse 380 microspecies. Edwin this is so so cool.

Another astonishing track here.
I appreciate your commitment to your vision.
My gosh so good.

Truly esoteric. Don't understand what is happening here but I imagine this is what the Mothers of Invention would sound like these days. THis must have been fun!

I LOVE THIS.

This is so crazy! I love it!
Your pronunciation is perfect! I like the way you sing and how you composed this song.

I like me some botanical nerdiness, weirdness and brambles! Why german? And does it translate itself in the song?
