My plan for today was try to finish a couple songs and hope come up with some decent tunes. The plan changed when the idea for GAZE came. I scribbled out some lyrics tried a couple of chords and did a dry run the I recorded it, My dog had to wait a minute or two for her food and you might hear her yapping in the background.
I recorded the song in one take with some lyrics, one chord and the instrumental added on the fly.
I really like GAZE which would never have be written with the FAWM challenge.
When times are uncertain and you're adrift
On a lonely ocean
Don’t know where you are or where to turn
No-one to depend on
Turn your gaze my way x2
I would be your compass on the water wild
Be your safe harbour
I would a light to guide you home
When the day grows darker
Turn your gaze my way x2
When you battle like a moth against the howling gale
Looking for the moon
I could keep warm inside my cloak
Until the wind is done
Turn your gaze my way x2
Tread lightly, love, on this path
Let the momentum guide
We are bodies in motion, we cannot stop
Though I would glide along beside you
Turn your gaze my way x2

@tseaver Thanks again. It's always good to feedback like this. The solo was improvised around a vaguely remembered Irish dance tune. A Man is in Love by the Waterboys has a perfect example building a traditional tune into a modern setting.

@andrewrusse Praise indeed, for which I am grateful. I hadn't made the Rory connection but you've make me think I might try GAZE on mandolin to get that celtic/ rock feel that I had in mind

I love this. Everything about it.
You got my left foot stomping like I was playing and singing it.
Listening to this, you're making me think of Rory. Still miss him, even now.

Nice write! Pulling together the various nautical bits, along with the striking image of the moth, works really well. Enjoyed the solo.

It's great how FAMW encourages us to create more!
A nice write here! Did you use an alternate tuning on the guitar?
