This has to be the weirdest song I’ve written in all my FAWMs. I wanted to write a lullaby and a round, but rounds don’t sound great with a multi-tracked voice, so I pitch-shifted and formant-shifted the vocals, and it got creepy, and I just kept making it creepier. Now I don’t think I would sing this to my kids.
All the instruments in this (melodica, piano, toy piano, and xylophone) are ones that I meticulously sampled years ago, with the idea that I could still use them to record even in the middle of the night, which came in handy just now.
Goodnight my children
rest your heads
Tonight you will dream
snuggled in your beds
Tomorrow you’ll wake up
and you can play
So goodnight my children
it’s been a good day

I love the idea of this being quietly assembled in the dead of night. So many lullabies are really creepy if you tune in to the words... this one has really sweet, innocuous words but the arrangement makes it creepy, weird, and wonderful.

Creepy how lovely lyrics like those can go in a complete different dimension with the musical frame you used.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear this as a themesong for a new creepy Netflix series.
