This is me giving voice to my inner critic, because she already knows the punchline to all my jokes. I heard Song #2 from @zecoop'z drum stash and the thing came together pretty quickly, just took me til now to finish it. To clarify, I don't actually believe I am a one-trick pony, but that's the inner critic for you.
Youuuu you’re just a one-trick pony
Youuuu you’re just a one-trick pony
You show up fresh to a crowd of new faces
You’re ready and eager to please
You can do the dance in less than ten paces
And you got that little trick up your sleeve
Then you pack your bag and board the next train
Go to the next town, do it all again
Youuuu you’re just a one-trick pony
Youuuu you’re just a one-trick pony
It’s been years now and you’re quite a bit older
They still applaud you when you do the steps
But every day looking over your shoulder
You gotta wonder, if this is as good as it gets
Maybe you’re aching from the stretch and the strain
Maybe you realize it’s time for a change
You gotta
Change it up, spread your wings
Don't be afraid of anything
Right now babe
Right now
That’s right, right now honey

Your voice every time you hit the word you, it’s just shivers time. So nice!! Everything about your voice is wonderful, but that bit…just wow! I think the lyrics are relatable to most people at one time or another. Need to strangle that inner critic, or at least give em laryngitis for life! I loved listening to this!
Tit4Tat.

Wow, this is so deep and low groovy... loving it.
If you don't mind me saying maybe eq a little 1200 out of the vox to get rid of that nasal sound.
Great to hear you in full flight, my friend. Hugs. I hope you had a fantastic FabFeb!

What a huge helping of soul in these blues! This sounds so vintage and wonderful. I love it when the bgv’s join in - wow, you’ve got me swaying and singing along here! This was such a beautiful song. I loved listening to this!
@enzo Feb 2022
Love the vibe. I can totally relate to that 1 trick pony feeling. Its hard to keep growing and finding new ways to keep life (and music) fresh. OF COURSE...this song demonstrates that you are nOT a 1 trick pony!
@nancycunning Feb 2022
If so, that is one hell of a trick, Little Pony.
Your inner critic oughta be checking the Help Wanted Ads.

This is very soulful the way it came out, Carley. Sad and pretty.
@prsongsmith Feb 2022
Another fantastic track, Carley! Such a great groove -- and those harmonies! I especially dig the little touch of saturated distortion on the vocals -- makes the whole thing feel like I'm listening on the 8-track deck in a '72 Chevy Camaro.
@jeff9 Feb 2022
Wow, apparently you can do almost anything! This soulful piece recalls Dusty Springfield or maybe one of her more recent disciples like Shelby Lynne. I bet you could make a living doing music in this vein. I'd buy it anyway. Kudos.
@bandybum Feb 2022
Nice time signature to carry us off with, the laid back melting pot of drums and guitars is smoooth and just love that organ floating around.
The vocals are fantastic, really capturing the heart of the lyric - bang on.
Quality!

My inner critic really digs this song. I was singing along like one of the Pips by the 2nd chorus. If the trick in question is making enjoyable music, then you're guilty as charged.

Great 60s soul / Otis Redding vibe here! Brilliant vocal performance, love the tasteful backing vocals too. Melancholy, reflective, interesting lyrics. If this is your one trick (spoiler: it’s not) then I’d happily listen all day long :)
