Feb 2022 jazz ballad saxophone piano
This was my first time creating a drum track entirely by hand, without building any loops - I still have plenty to learn, but it was a lot of fun! Ultimately it's a jazz balad, but I tried to make it rock as hard as I could in the middle there.
Oh man, love is hard, and losing love is arguably harder. Throw in the sunk cost fallacy, and I don't know how any of us get out alive. For this week's polysemy challenge, what does it mean to be free?
We might be empty
We might be free
Of all of those burdens
Not meant to be
But what do we have now?
How much suffering will a heart allow
To be free
All we invested
All we endured
What about all of these moments
What were we fighting for
If we couldn’t keep it
What do we have now?
Where’s my love when we break down
Now that we’re free
Look on these mighty works and despair
Love everlasting, barren and bare
So what do we have now?
Just a memory that I can’t put down
We’re free

What a great tune! Sweet piano on the long intro that draws you in. And nice job on the drums. It's painstaking work to pull a drum track together from individual samples. This is one of my favorites from the FAWM challenge this year.

I love that intro! The drum track is great, and the piano too. I was imagining a high harmony in my head as you sang.
