First of all, I was interested in the idea that leaves are primarily either green, yellow or red-- like a traffic light.
Then, with the light either being [green] -- [yellow] -- [red] resonated with my uneasiness around liking someone when you don't know their sexuality. Though, what's interesting thennnnnn is that this song could be interpreted as a big recreation of the bad-stereotype about bi's (of bi just being a stepping stone to gay– or of being like wait jk I'm straight) —since I'm making an analogy to a stop light and when you think about it, a yellow light is about to turn red… so looks like all y’all bi’s ‘bout to turn gay(!) Ah yikes, see what I’ve set myself up with?
Anyway, more broadly speaking, this is about mixed signals
Shattered traffic light pieces coming from the trees
Green says go, think she wants me to leave
Now I’m running reds right under my feet
But I still don’t know what yellow means
Don’t go, don’t stop
When I go, you stop
Right at my face
Color-coded red
I blush in turn while
Green eyes say go
Look down at your skirt
Yeah yeah yellow
Halfway light
Like, yell-ye-yellow
You see me now
And you say don’t go
But if I stop
Then I’ll forget where I am
Keep moving
So I’m never anywhere I can forget
Halfway light
Like, yell-ye-yellow
You see me now
And you say don’t go
But just yesterday
You were miles away
And tomorrow
Might be yellow
Shattered traffic light pieces coming from the trees
Green says go, think she wants me to leave
Now I’m running reds right under my feet
But I still don’t know what yellow means
Don’t go, don’t stop
When I go, you stop
Right at my face
Color-coded red
I blush in turn while
Green eyes say go
Look down at your skirt
Yeah yeah yeah yellow
Halfway light
Like, yell-ye-yellow
You see me now
And you say don’t go
But if I stop
Then I’ll forget where I am
Keep moving
So I’m never anywhere I can forget
Halfway light
Like, yell-ye-yellow
You see me now
And you say don’t go
But just yesterday
You were miles away
And tomorrow
Might be yellow
Amber light, golden vines
Wrap around, tell me lies
If you know
Give me the go
I can’t trust my eyes
‘Cause the world’s
Only green
In summertime
Halfway light
Like, yell-ye-yellow
You see me now
And you say don’t go
But if I stop
Then I’ll forget where I am
Keep moving
So I’m never anywhere I can forget
Halfway light
Like, yell-ye-yellow
You see me now
And you say don’t go
But just yesterday
You were miles away
And tomorrow
Might be yellow

A wild and funky melody and backing music which fits with the mood of the lyric. I got a smile from the lyric on several levels. Brought back memories of mixed signals (and game-playing) in my single days. Also because I am a transportation engineer and the different interpretations people have certainly has consequences. Well done!

Oooo so fun! I love the “Don’t go, don’t stop” section, I’m sooo glad you came back to it. When you brought it down for the bridge *chef’s kiss* I really like this song!!

The playground chant vocal delivery is fantastic. Cool double taking too. I like the synth pounding away.

The somewhat anxious edge to the vocal feel along with the insistent backing track creates a sense of strong uncertainty. Which is reflected in the theme and lyrics of the song. So yeah. Great work!
