Another skirmish to try and get me across the line
you lie with pills
and pillow cases
in high up places
until the coaster
writes a line
you tell the world
with warn out faders
and twisted cables
and write yourself
in time
and fabricate the meaning
it stands to reason
that it's not alright
and when I walk at my own pace
I feel a breeze
pushing me
and when I walk at my own pace
what keeps me standing
is washed away
when I walk
I switch and tune in to a printer
a stool with headphones get in the way
the post is left this way for days
and the lies are just the same
I see you running
and I can't keep up
no matter how much that I try
your figure fades away
and when I walk at my own pace
I feel a breeze
pushing me
and when I walk at my own pace
what keeps me standing
is washed away
when I walk
you turned around

This sounds mysterious and tragic to me, qualities I enjoy a lot in music. The chorus is really beautiful.
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
The chorus is a nice contrast, your vocals are great as always. Really like the piano chords in the verse (I imagine there some technical term for the rhythm but anyway it's cool).
@berty38 Feb 2022
This has the sound and emotional resonance David Bowie RIP. It’s upbeat but there’s that tinge of “what’s really going on” with the line “what keeps me standing is washed away”. Really cool
@srcoops Feb 2022
Nice and light. I enjoyed it.
@max Feb 2022
One of the s022122's I listened to but did not immediately comment on.
Coming back to it after a night sleep it sounds so familiar, a nice subconscious earworm. Great work.
@crutherford Feb 2022
i really love
you lie with pills
and pillow cases
that intro grabbed me right away.
there were many things i didn't expect in the melody which is a great thing. i always enjoy being surprised.
also, i really liked these lines.
you tell the world
with warn out faders
and twisted cables
and write yourself
in time
great job on the skirmish!
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
It is great to see how the melody carries the words beautifully... Great tune and rhythm, I love that piano... Strong lyrics, performed in a fantastic way!
@vainhirvain Feb 2022
I like the way you bring together a 60's pop feel and a 90's stadion pop feel so effortlessly. The melody of A section is very good!
@jwhanberry Feb 2022
This fine song covers a lot of ground at least metaphorically. I hear some Beatles in there, in the verse piano and delivery. Great work.
@porrectus Feb 2022
Thats a great song. Nice pop feel with some nice deep lyrics. Piano playing was aces. NIce work, good skirmish
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
I love the verse melody - that is a stand-out brilliant piece of writing. The words are really, really good, in terms of both their rhythm and their meaning.. That's a really strong bit of skirmishing right there.
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Great contrast of the more frantic pace of the person addressed and then the narrator's more "andante" walk.
Fascinating melody, that I would never have come up with in 50 years. It has real show tune feel about it. And that breathless vocal was perfect for this. Chapeau!
@tunecat Feb 2022
Fab tight piano intro. Great song conjured up in these time constraints. These songs about fawming (?) make so much sense to me
@sunfire Feb 2022
I absoutely love it. Cheers!
@robynmackenzie Feb 2022
Very cool lyrics! A bit theatrical, a bit Ben Folds. I like the change of pace in the chorus. Nice skirmishing!
@unknownbecky Feb 2022
That first verse just really reaches out and grabs you. I love it—what evocative lyrics.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
"pills and pillowcases" great alliteration and it says a lot!! super line
walk at my own pace. nice take on the prompt
sweet vocal delivery of your lyrics
excellent!
@pianoquest Feb 2022
Nice piano and vocals! A good showing for just an hour of writing. I gather that walking is empowering in a way that talking and thinking and arguing aren't.
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
Oh my, so many angles and semi hidden meanings... I think...
This is sung with true sorrow, and the words are given all the angst and frustration felt in the words.
@dock Feb 2022
I don't know what you are singing about but I feel good listening to this song! Nice piano - the changes between verse and chorus are effective.
