There may be some Bright Eyes influence on this one
I was drunk in the daytime
I was waiting on you
A funny thing should happen
You were waiting on me too
So I took my starry head down to the Carnaval parade
Wrapped up in feather boas was a silvery brigade
Done now I was gawkin so I wandered to the park
The renegades were pumping beats joined by some Tony hawks
I was sure that you were there within the crowded jubilee
But I just kept on walking
My head was swimming in the sea
Northwards or eastward
I always mix em up
In the direction of the bridges and the touristy crap shops
But the blocks they stretch further lengthening with every step
I got as far as the Nychos bat and then I sat down and I slept
I’d tell you what I dreamed but sleep was empty as the urn
That your ashes drifted out from overturned down by the bay
And some must have ended up under my thumb, and in my throat cuz when I awoke
it was dry and you were gone
I’ve carried you round with me
Now I stagger to my feet
Cannot blend in with the evening denizens of the street
And my shoes untied you’d think I’d know by now to tie the double
knotted bow I turn around and walk back home
The fog rolls in they named it
As if that will give it form
It lingers then it burns off as the sun rises in morn
Should have brought a sweater it still catches me off guard
like the shuttered storefronts
wood-covered and barred
