Feb 2022 paintcardchallenge hybrid-guitar
"You took them all at once, didn't you..." Zonker Harris, to Uncle Duke
So yes. I tried to make every line a color from the paint card challenge. I had to use a few extra words to get it to make any sense at all, but it was pretty fun trying to just get things close to rhyming, and a couple of times, I was able to squeeze two into a line. Then I spent way too much time on the demo, but that was also fun.
Deep in the ice cap
Dressed to the nines
In Dante’s cardigan
I’m chasing butterflies with
Lady Ophelia in that
Blue moon glow
She bats her sooty lashes
Each time we wave hello
Lark wing
Tempt me
Lark wing
Tempt me
Deep in the ice cap, the
Shadows of time
Howl at the moon or give a
Melting sigh
Enchanted mermaids and
Angels of the north
Drink melon punch and let the
Quiet rain pay it forward
Lark wing
Tempt me
Lark wing
Tempt me
Deep in the ice cap, be-
Hind the palace walls
Blue magpies tune their harp strings
And scan the windswept clouds
They’ve seen this slice of heaven
Through night’s blue arch
The endless shadows falling
The fire within each star

The paint card challenge taken to the nth degree. :) What a challenge you gave yourself, trying to include as many different colours as you could in your lyrics. This is a fun and very mysterious lyric (maybe "mysterious lyric" should be a paint colour. lol) and a very cool, relaxed performance with a great groove that had me swaying the whole time. I especially enjoyed the unresolved feel of that hypnotic repeating guitar riff. Great song!

i'm sleuthin' alot here...
ok. this is a really cool challenge that i just found out about - the only thing i ever do are skirmishes - i think i have to fix that for next year.
i'm blown away by how you stitched this together...
it's so dreamy and lyrically lush... those ooos are otherworldly
also, hilarious quote in your liner notes.

I’m getting such a stoner vibe from this, is that you singing those high oohs that are so angelic?? Wow! Those singing lark wings, huh? I’m tempted. The eerie dreamy quality, the floaty guitar sound and all those evocative lyrics. I want to repaint my house now. Clever without sounding like it’s taking itself too seriously - bravo. You bit it all off and you chewed it all up without choking!!
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
Nice job!! How clever but to make it all rhyme, that is a feat!! Love the production with the voices on this, feels eerie. I think this was the challenges challenge, it is brilliant and to top it off, you sang it....so impressed. Thank you for taking the Paint Card Challenge....and taking it to the next level!!!
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Wowza. So much wonderful. That clangy guitar bed. The tight rhythm section. The Dylanesque Impressionist lyrics. The eerie beach boys harmonies were the icing on a very nice cake.
@deena Feb 2022
So spooky and eerie... love all the sounds and the harmony on the chorus.
@ofishell Feb 2022
Another fine addition to your 2022 album, and no mistake! How you take such unrelated words and ideas and fuse them into something lyrically beautiful is a mystery to me...simply brilliant.

Thanks for your nice comments on my use of multiple paint names - I love what you've created out of the same prompt! Mysterious and fanciful and full of beautiful images. Congratulations!
@dock Feb 2022
Ditto, what they said, very good production and performance.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
I love the delicate guitaring and casual drumming groove you've got going on this one. And all this from that prompt. Fantastic!! My fav bits are the gorgeous harmonies which i am now on my second listen trying to figure out. Man this is a really good piece of work.
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Vocal phrasing and harmonies sit wonderfully on top of that delicate guitar. The second pulsating guitar is subtle but adds a lot to the feel. Your drum programing is impressive, at least to someone that only dreams of being able to do such sings. Dig'n the shaker and tambourine. Again, subtle but effective. Interesting and visually descriptive lyrics.

I can easily be blissfully ignorant of the colour names and enjoy the lyrics for what they are: rich and intriguing. Love the lazy pacing and the Beach Boy harmonies and (?volume knob violined?) tremolo at the end. Your thumbed bassline is super-nicely in the pocket with the bass drum -- you are really getting the hang of the 7 string!

I'm astonished at your creativity. Amazing job with that prompt. If I didn't know what you were doing this would sound mysterious but fully realized (and even so I can't always tell which are the colors.) I love "night's blue arch" -- those last three lines, actually. I love the ambiguity of "tempt me." (oh, and "let the quiet rain pay it forward.")
