Hangover + Anxiety. One supercharges the other. Y'all been there, I'm sure. Another devil to mix.
hungover
stuck fast in the cement
it’s not the kindest lover
as the wild, wild world repents
(it’s nothing but a pretence)
come and get it if you want it
it’s only nervousness
hungover again
drawn into the spiral
auto-writing as problem play
stays knotted a while
so don’t you touch that dial
everybody always waiting on their phones
will you ever feel at home in these bones
enact a kind of ruthlessness
but it’s only nervousness
in the service of
a dinner date with hangxiety
and dirty looks across the restaurant
guess this whole evening’s on me
keep calm and act naturally

Love those wibbly guitars that provide the texture here. The whole arrangement is great though, with the synths and awesome backing vocals. I think this years batch of songs cements your status (imo) as fawm's greatest lyricist. Thanks to your finely honed talents you also have the chops to execute your songs beautifully. Top notch!

This feels like something needs to be belted out by the crowd at a festival! So anthemic but with a tinge of melancholy underpinning it. Love it!

My word, this is awesome too. The vocals sound fantastic and that melody is really compelling. The bass line really stands out for me again here too. Finished off with a top mix job. Excellent.
@adforperu Feb 2022
Those backing vocals at 0:29, oof. Such a beautiful piece of songwriting, and the arrangement is perfect. The walking bassline really keeps a lovely rhythm to complement those splashy drums. Those little guitar lines that play between the vocals are gorgeous too. Obsessed with that outro as well, so well done.

That guitar line at the end of the verse is awesome. Don't know why that stuck out! The "it's only nervousness" melody is so good.
@owl Feb 2022
I love the ethereal quality of your vocals and the synths/guitars floating over the steady, calm bass and drums here. “As the wild, wild world repents” is a great line.

Great song about my least favorite combination of feelings. . . .what a brutal cocktail! I like the dreamy vibe of the guitar and synth. The vocal melody and phrasing on "come and get it if you want it", is terrific. The high vocal harmonies work really well. Here's to no hangxiety until after FAWM . . . cause we can't afford to lose a weekend day!
@unpronounceable Feb 2022
There's so many lovely voices via instruments in this. And then your background Vox! <3. I was drawn in by the title. Such a pleasant vibe of music in this song for a feel/experience that can be such a struggle. I really like how you personify Hangxiety too. This is a great track. I want to go window-shopping on a sunny day in Helsinki listening to this :). Ooo and the outro is great; reminds me of Radiohead.
@elesimo Feb 2022
I absolutely love your mixes. So good, Anya! Another song that's absolutely perfect.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Well i may be about hangover anxiety but its simply gorgeous to float along to. Has a real classic indie feel to it and your vocals are a true winner on this. I really really love the come get it if you want it section. . those harmonies are beyond a treat
@stevenwesleyguiles Feb 2022
This grooves SO HARD!
That distorto sound and the pretty verb-y guitar in the right ear! OH SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS VIBE!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Not surprised it was a tricky one to mix, but you've done a wonderful job making this feel weightless and shimmery even though there's so much going on. Love the shimmery delay guitar and ahhhhhh harmonies and the slightly rougher texture of that synth / organ. Songs about hangovers and anxiety always have an immediate route straight to my heart but this one goes above and beyond! Particularly love the unexpected melodic shift on "hangxiety" which really feels like it adds to the lyrical theme, somehow.
@rshakesp Feb 2022
love the voice and the soundscape you have achieved here - with the ahhh harmonies adding brass like texture. and some of the fuzzy noises in the mids adding to the texture that makes the whole thing feel a bit hungover. the middle section with the bouncing synth / guitar is really nice. The bass bounces along in a pleasing walking bass fashion that really keeps the piece moving. and a fascinating outro with the marble sounds. Great job - liked it a lot

Oh! I don't think I've checked in at all with you this FAWM. This is the first one that I've stumbled across. This is very nice. Those heavy drums with the dreampop stuff are a really nice choice, and they work well. There's something hypnotic and appropriate about heavy cymbals with this kind of music. There are lots of nice musical details providing texture and variety in the background, it all washes over very nicely. The melody is lovely too. It is reminding me of something, but only indirectly. Lovely feel.
