Way back pre-FAWM, @aeye jokingly asked in the banjo forum about how to know when a banjo is ripe for picking. And right then I made a note to turn that comment into a song.
I've done pretty well at my goal of a banjo-fied FAWM!
Got me some bananas they’re still green
but my banjo’s ripe for picking – here’s what I mean
Got some avocadoes they’re not quite soft
but my banjo’s ripe for picking – and I’m off
Apples on the tree won’t be ready til the fall
Grapes on the vine still hard and small
but my banjo’s always ready and it’s hanging on the wall
It’s ripe for picking – and to me it does call
Now sometimes I let my peaches grow a little mold
but my banjo’s ripe for picking – and it never gets old

I'm in the same boat as far as I've neglected quite a few people whose stuff I love this year. It's like I find more and more new people every year... I know the regulars are killing it, but it doesn't make me feel any better about missing lots of stuff.
Glad I picked this one to listen to... I'll see myself out
Seriously though, that banjo does sound ripe for the pickin' and a lot of great imagery packed into this short tune, well done. It makes me wanna dance a jig through a field of banjos

Really fun, I'm a sucker for this kind of song with a recurring one-liner as the hook. Nice pickin', sounds ripe to me!

hahahaha what a great idea for a song @aeye and the lyrics are so clever

I sure do see what you mean. What a great song. Love the way you play and sing it. Reminds me of the way I love the song Church Street Blues.

This is amazing and a really great use of a ripe banjo. So glad my stupid joke was able to inspire something fun like this. This was some fun banjo pickin.

Such fun! My toes are tapping to your picking!

Fun. I liked this one. Nice picking.

What a fun, clever song! I have this vision of you surrounded by unripened fruit as you pick away. I love about your peaches getting moldy while you play the banjo. Made me smile!

That is totally a phrase ripe for picking, haha! Here in Wisconsin it's the no-local-produce season, so it's refreshing to hear about growing things even if they're green and hard. Witty ditty and fun performance!
