Feb 2022 spiritual country-folk cbg banjo slide alternatetuning
I've been wanting to get a little more rustic and perhaps spiritual with the cigar box guitars, and I finally had an idea during a church meeting this morning.
The CBanjoG is tuned to open g minor (dGBbD) to make the minor chords easier, and would probably be better with some sort of banjo picking rather than strumming. The slide part is on my fretless resonator CBG. This one also inspired me to put together a quick stompbox for percussion, which was fun to mess with effects for.
This mortal life is full of woe and suffering
With burdens stacked on burdens on your back
Yet in your certainty
Don’t miss the forest for the trees
For the woodsman is sharpening his axe
Promised naught but trial and tribulation
Can you claim that which your merit lacks?
The refiner requires
Fuel for the fire
And the woodsman is sharpening his axe
When it comes your time to join the fallen
Take comfort lest your faith should fade to black
There is hope that from out
Of the stump new life will sprout
And the woodsman is sharpening his axe

Very deep lyrics & excellent instrumentation. Well done.

Oh man the melody twist in "woodsman is sharpening his axe" is so unexpected, it's a v cool moment. I love the sound of the...cigar box guitar? Is it a normal guitar? Regardless, the combination of sounds is super rustic, fits the song perfectly.
