Feb 2022 soul groove analog 8-track cassette brother-collab live-intruments
ZeCoop: Another new creation from our brother FAWM weekend. We started this Saturday night around 9pm with the desire to create a new song straight to 8-track cassette. We started writing with me on bass and Rob on drums and were happy with the direction it was going. We recorded a click and my bass part and then Rob wrote and recorded a Hammond organ part. This afternoon we did the live drums and I did an electric guitar part. It is VERY different than what we thought, once again and a new sound for us as a writing team! I love how it turned out and will likely take the tape home to upload into my computer. I might add some horns once I am home. We'll see! (It was so much fun to watch my brother play this amazing groove on the drums!) :) This was mixed straight out of the Tascam 488 and then a few effects were added in the DAW to the track.
GuateCoop: This was another fun one! It is nice to work with my brother, as we just move along knowing that we will like whatever comes out. We were determined to use my Tascam 488 for at least one song, so I figured that we should do a sound that would benefit from recording on tape. I originally was thinking of the sounds on "Shake Your Rump" by the Beastie Boys, so the drums were going to be groovy in some way. We worked it out live, but I had to stop playing the drums so loud because we had two nieces over for the night and could hear it..... @zecoop added a super cool bass part instead (he REALLY is a bass player--so fun to watch) and then it was on to what would we do now??? I heard that Hammond B3 sound in my head when they bang on the keys to make it like a percussive fret mute or something but had never done anything like that. Well, I have now....Then the guitar went on and it was the perfect tone and playing. When it came to naming it, I have suggested that he watch "Summer of Soul" (which is AWESOME and has a terribly sad history of being buried for 50 years), so we named it Winter of Soul....hehe. Super fun times. We hope that you like it and hear the effect that recording to tape had on it.

Not from us… :)

Wow. That feels good. It would be fun to start with a prompt likeThe Winter of Soul and try to put lyrics on a song like this. Maybe at 50/90
@adnama17 Mar 2022
Awwww yeah. Dig that funky beat! I think I might have a torrid affair with the bass in the chorus...
I need a goddamn organ. My aunt had one when I was a kid. I would play it for hours. Sigh...
I think you both wore your sassypants while you wrote this, didn't you? The melody/lyrics would be very 'take a long walk off a short pier' I think. Hahaha!
@leepat Mar 2022
such groove - inspired drumming, syncopated bass and the hammond and guitar do have a dialogue going...
this begs for some soulful singing and scatting.
well done brothers!
@tan482 Feb 2022
Yes! This is so funky!
@cts Feb 2022
Man, I very much enjoyed listening to this and got excited, too! It felt like an encore jam to close out a sold-out concert. This grooves with so much energy. Love, love, love it.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
Ahhh so here is the soul groove you guys were working on. The verse part if defo funky as hell and then a chorus break which has the cooperiders written all over it. I love the interplay between the organ and guitar on this. OOo its making me bounce!!
@wobbiewobbit Feb 2022
what a groove! love it! i like that slower walking groove, dunno quite what it does there but sooooo grooooovy! great brother collab!
@gilhari Feb 2022
Love the groove and energy there… super!
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
That organ is so glorious, really warms the whole thing up, and yes the drum & bass groove is infectious! I like how the guitar gives everything a bit of space to shine and but just fills the whole thing out nicely.
@nadine Feb 2022
It's so fun to hear the coop bothers collab. Cause you play a lot of instruments and got the groove. Man I love the drums with all these tiny details. And the organ grooves so nicely. What are these percussive parts? Organ or muted string guitars? I didn't think that this is only a 8 track recording. Great!
@radiobenedetto Feb 2022
This is a really nice groove. I love the descending rhodes into the clean chickin'pickin' guitar hits. I can hear a great band leader or party mc laying some banter on this. You should hit up @cts.
Sounds like you guy's had an awesome weekend of music making.
@sapient Feb 2022
Oh, YES!
This has soul, it has groove, it just makes ya wanna dance :D
Top work, gents!
@unkept Feb 2022
Really dig the blend of instrumentation, and it really has a wonderful groove and attitude! Great job to both of you.
(Oh, and if you don't have anyone yet for lyrics and vocals please send me a message! I have a bit of an idea in my head and this would be an interesting challenge.)
@srcoops Feb 2022
Great drums! Moves along nicely.
@slightlydrunk Feb 2022
Holy guacamole! Groovy, jazzy, funky, bluesy! Oh so nimble, yet so chunky, soul-y! What a doozy! A real beaut', daisy diddly-dandy hot stuff humdinger, knockout lollapalooza nifty little pippin' ripsnorter of a standout sweetheart! In short: I like it!
@eas3637 Feb 2022
Woot! What a great track! Such a great groove and terrific production. I can't wait to hear the lyrics....
@ltunes Feb 2022
You guys are having so much fun... I can tell. I need an in house collaborator for sure. Well done and fun song.
@ductapeguy Feb 2022
Wasn't this in that movie about the black detective in New York who brought down a crime boss in a discotheque? Sooo groovy. So true to the form.
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
yeah,,,this has that honest analog sound that only real people playing real instruments can get
@andygetch Feb 2022
WOW! This reminds me of so much back-in-the-day coolness. All of it. The organ part, the bass, and guitar. Super-fly-collab!
@bachelorb Feb 2022
