Feb 2022 folk ballad blues acoustic
I'm not sure this qualifies as blues-but I think it's definitely Americana. (Doesn't matter though.)
Somehow, I got this idea from the situations where married men expressed an interest in me. No effing way. I also couldn't put myself in the mindset of a woman who would "take someone else's man" just for writing a song. So, this is a "thing" that takes the man away, not a person.

Hey girl, I’m gonna take your man.
You’re not looking, gonna grab his hand.
Hey girl, oh, can’t you see,
That your man’s got eyes for me?
He put me down a long time ago.
The heart is weary and the will is slow.
The flame is lit and it still burns.
A broken heart is the one that yearns.
Hey girl, I’m gonna take your man.
You can’t stop me and my simple plan.
I have my ways to make him stay.
His life belongs to the devil’s day.
He put me down a long time ago.
The heart is weary and the will is slow.
The flame is lit and it still burns.
A broken heart is the one that yearns.
Hey, girl I’m gonna take your man,
Why he leaves you won’t understand.
Whisky’s stronger than a lover’s hold.
He won’t find peace ‘til his blood runs cold.
He put me down a long time ago.
The heart is weary and the will is slow.
The flame is lit and it still burns.
A broken heart is the one that yearns.

Whisky is stronger than a lover's hold. Scorned woman Americana. Nice!

Nice write! As you note, it isn't quite in the blues vein, but it does seem to draw from the blues-adjacent "Appalachian ballad" well.
I found it interesting that it was possible to read the lyric as a dialogue, with "He put me down a long time ago" (and ff) as the respondent's part

Love the haunting music and beautiful picking ,Jessica.
Love the twist of personification of an object.
You vocals are so soulful on this.
Really enjoyed this one

This has a very enticing feel, just as enticing as the "thing" that took him. Love it! Great personification.

Love the fingering through this chord progression. Sounds like this turns into a revenge song for a long-ago rejection. Yea, bring him down with whiskey and love.... Nice.

Yeah, Americana with a hint of blues feel to the lyric and tonal structure. Well-written as always!
