Feb 2022 s022022 skirmish songskirmish mad
so full disclosure i had this title and the title line already! I heard Tim Roth use it in a TV show! i told Ken Mattsson i was going to use it somewhere! ha this prompt was perfect! quick write used a bass n drum track played a simple guitar progression and solo and just in time. rushed the lyrics down cant even work out one line i sang i did it so fast
I tell myself i'm passing time
Until I am whole again
But i'm not really sure at all
If I will ever be the same
They bought me me against my will
But maybe they were right
At least if I am out of my mind
At least I am out of sight
I was crazy then for sure
Lost all of my sanity
But now i'm the newest star
At the finger painting academy
How I got her I don’t know
Things just got too much
I always thought I was in control
But clearly I was out of touch
They say it was for my own good
But not sure they would know
So when the lights go down tonight
Gonna find a way to go
I was crazy then for sure
Lost all of my sanity
But now i'm the newest star
At the finger painting academy
They bought me me against my will
But maybe they were right
At least if I am out of my mind
At least I am out of sight
I was crazy then for sure
Lost all of my sanity
But now i'm the newest star
At the finger painting academy

This has got one of those very satisfying melodies. Very catchy. Really like that driving beat and the guitar solo too. Great song!
@guatecoop Mar 2022
haha, with the tags I wasn't sure what I was getting into.... I get it now and you've done really well with this. I like the looney kind of subject and I guess he worked it out alright. The instrumentation in this is really nice and that cutting lead works really well. Nicely done here with a cool story!
@bethdesombre Mar 2022
I love the title, and the opening stanza frames it well - I love the idea of being good at the thing you're doing to pass the time because you have no other option. The narrator does some interesting accepting throughout of the situation. #tit4tat
@siebass Mar 2022
Great blues tone on that guitars. Funny lyrics on this one. Everyone hopes to be the brightest star at the fingerpainting academy, lol. Welcome to the funny farm
@richaaaay Feb 2022
Love that opening guitar lick and then the guitar solo later on and the lick at the end. Those are the highlights for me. Fun idea for a song, Finger Painting Academy. Impressive skirmish too. Would never have guess this song was put together with a time constraint.
@n24 Feb 2022
Really punchy rhythms, I love the vocal style, it’s got a unique and very characterful quality! The lyrics are really fun, it’s a very humorous take on the skirmish prompt and you did an incredible job getting this level of production and all these lyrics out in a skirmish! I’m astounded! Love the guitar and the little licks and riffs that come in between verses. Great work! #Tit4Tat
@davidtaro Feb 2022
Right, I'm a little behind with my listening - apologies - so I'm going to have a quick rifle through your artist favourites. This is awesome work for a skirmish. How do you get a full band production in that time?! Cool jaunty T-Rex feel to the thing, nice swing to it. Love the overdriven guitar tones. Brilliant title too - I don't think it matters that you had it in the back of your head already. Nice....
@humantornado Feb 2022
This was a fun listen! It feels like it would be the theme to an 80's comedy or something. Great vibe with this. #tit4tat1
@mandolinda Feb 2022
Great lyrics here. Love the title and story. Sometimes I can’t tell what instruments are really being played, and which are computer generated, but this guitar playing is really nice. Really great skirmish. #tit4tat1
@cicpisces Feb 2022
Nice guitar work. Good flow to the song. I enjoyed your take on the prompt. We're all a little bit crazy. Nice work.
@erbaer Feb 2022
Nice stinger opening! The bass line is great along with the guitar riffs. This is a lot of fun! Great skirmishing!
@tjeff Feb 2022
This is far-out John! I do love that title, and you've put together a creative and excellent portrayal of insanity.
@sheilerk Feb 2022
This is amazing that you did it as a one take skirmish. I don't know that the finger painting academy sounds all that bad, but I'm guessing it was better than the alternative for this poor bloke. You tell a cool story, and it made a fun song to listen to.
@jwhanberry Feb 2022
Sounds like a strange place to spend some time. I liked your guitar break. Sounded real good.
@corinnecurcio Feb 2022
Cool that this fit the prompt perfectly! Awesome playing. The lyrics put me in mind of "They're Coming to Take Me Away"
@thedutchwidows Feb 2022
The echo-y vocal is great, it's lyrically very very good, and that's a great solo! Very nicely done.
@sheslin Feb 2022
Best song title so far for me John! Oh I like Tim Roth! Well it is an awesome title. Awesome guitar solo - and nice instrumentation throughout. I like how you built this song around the title and the prompt - great lyrical writing and it sounds great. Really well done.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
i love the Almond brothers - wouldn't they be completely nuts! ha ha the title was by Tim Roth in a show called Lie to me to describe a home he was infiltrating
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Love this title!! Your vocals are awesome! Agree that the guitar solo is brilliant! Really entertaining listen.
@tcelliott Feb 2022
Ooh, cool guitars right at the start. Reverby vocals definitely gives it atmosphere, the kinda "not right" kind. I like the bouncy rhythm, the good bass line. Great title, too.
@mariekevinkmusic Feb 2022
How can you write so many words in such a short time and have them make sense! Well, sort of sense because the protagonist is clearly mad.
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Cool late sixties/ early 70s feel about this. The Allman Brothers filled to the gunnels with dope cakes! ;-)
Ha ha ha! My spell checker changed Allman to Almond - that's the next A on Fake Bands :-)
I love how the "loony bin" you invent is called the "Finger Painting Academy" - that's a cue for a whole Netflix series, if I ever I heard one. You should pitch it at them :-)
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
This is pretty cool and fun. Love love love that title and the whole concept, which fits just perfect into this theme !
@andygriff Feb 2022
What an effort! Even found time for solos. Even if you already had the title you still had to write and record the thing. Well done!
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Really great music and love the sounds of the guitar in this - especially that cool solo- with your awesome vocals on a wonderful classic feeling melody. The juxtaposition of the upbeat music and the fun hook with the sadness of the lyrics makes this so interesting.
@keithcuts Feb 2022
finger painting! how fun.
creative use of another creative art as your subject.
fun listen!
good job!
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
I remember you talking about the finger painting academy! Glad to see it in a song now. That banging beat is good, and the guitar solo rocks.
@chickenjail Feb 2022
Great, fat-sounding guitar at the intro and again in the lead break. Heavy reverb on the vocal connects me to the old Porter Wagoner song "The Rubber Room". But the rest of this arrangement feels more like Alice Cooper. Cool!
@sunfire Feb 2022
Nice rhythmic bounce. You rock! I like it.
@tunecat Feb 2022
Great sound. Witty lyrics. Love the idea.
@rayboneor Feb 2022
That is a great title. This has a nice bounce--and that's some hot guitar there at the outset--and later on. Wouldn't it be great to have a band on retainer so you could rock out songs like this without having to mess around with computers? This is some fun old-school rock
