I wanted to try to combine the beauty of two of my heroes. It's very sad that neither of them are with us any longer but I kind of imagined they met up in a studio and I happened to have my bass with me. The two heroes are Sandy Denny who sang this version of the song on her album "Sandy" and Clyde Stubblefield who was possibly the greatest funk drummer. The beautiful Richard Farina lyrics of the song are about the impact of human interference on the earth. The funk background eventually gives out leaving just the voices. the original song is modal and I've arranged it shifting between Bb Ab and Eb for the chorus.
In the second verse, the bass is a little bit lazy and behind the beat but I decided I quite liked it. let me know what you think.
Perhaps the end signifies when the funk leaves us we're finished.

As gentle tides go rolling by,
Along the salt sea strand
The colours blend and roll as one
Together in the sand.
And often do the winds entwine
Do send their distant call,
The quiet joys of brotherhood,
And love is lord of all.
The oak and weed together rise,
Along the common ground.
The mare and stallion light and dark
Have thunder in their sound.
The rainbow sign, the blended flower
Still have my heart in thrall.
The quiet joys of brotherhood,
And love is lord of all.
But man has come to plough the tide,
The oak lies on the ground.
I hear their fires in the fields,
They drive the stallion down.
The roses bleed both light and dark,
The winds do seldom call.
The running sands recall the time
When love was lord of all.

Sampled Sandy Denny over this fun groove!?! Wowwww I love how unexpected this is. Used to be in a folk band and always loved her voice SO much.

Not sure if I owe you one still, but heck, doesn't matter, I'm jamming on the funk that bass is bringing here. What a strange morphy meld you got here. It's like someone switched out the prunes for magic mushrooms on the welcome platter at a witchcraft convention. Good times! Love it!

The vocal sounds very different from the backing track, yet it fits. The harmony started on "the oak and week" - very nice. The bass sounds nice as its bottom blanket of sound.

What an interesting transformation of that song. I like the funky percussion/bass underpinning the "quietness" of the original.

I think the lagging bass works in parts, really works in others and in a few small parts doesn't really... but each to their own ears right? Maybe it's in some of the slap on the higher strings it's more difficult for me.
But on the whole a very enjoyable listen, great stuff!

Absolute magic! I'm surprised and impressed by how well you get the modal melody to work with the bass guitar box patterns.

Wow, the two vastly different styles blend so well the way you've arranged this. This is dramatic and evocative. "And love is lord over all" gives me chills. I love the way the bass goes wild when the vocals are at their most powerful, then drops out.
