Feb 2022 americana folk crime drama
Getting to the end of Feb and the end of my ideas. I was complaining to a friend about being dried up on inspirations. He gave me this opening line to use. Thanks again to @mustardseeds . Somehow I built a song around that line and the idea of a couple that keep getting back together, even if its not good for either. the doubling vocals got a bit out of hand, but i didnt want to keep returning to my own crimes/mistakes.
Returning to the scene of the crime
like all the fools we left behind
we must have been out of our mind
why I ended back there every time
It started out like a beautiful rhyme
We sang and danced the pantomime
we were two bodies and one mind
but like a drunkard I could not keep time
they told us it would never last
we’d roll our eyes and start to laugh
but when I think about the past
we never could pass that math
Return to the scene of the crime
we were together all the time
Returning to the scene of the crime
always knew id end up doing time
Where do I go from here?
choices I made are not clear
Where did you go my dear?
No place to run now i fear

Excellent! A keeper for sure. Love that riff.

That is a super great chord progression and I'm glad to hear you got some inspiration from an opening line, you really fleshed it out quite well, it's a real good song and the doubled vocals are a great sound too, well done!

Catchy chord progression. You certainly don't sound like you've dried up, even if you are in Arizona. Love the "two bodies and one mind" and then how you could "never pass the math." Very clever. I think it sounds good too.

I like it. The chord sequence is really interesting, going high on the fourth, and really effective too. It adds a little extra tension to your noirish lyric. It positively drips with regret. Nice work!

Great concept, returning to the scene of the crime. Ending up doing time is another good analogy for this. Really clear story, well told, and flows pretty well.
