Feb 2022 environmentalism naderites rock synthpop
I'm old enough to remember a time when wearing seatbelts in cars was optional; some cars didn't have them, because the manufacturers didn't want to waste money fitting a feature that many people didn't use. It took Ralph Nader and his book about the American car industry, "Unsafe At Any Speed", to change things.
Sometimes it feels like we're heading back to those pre-Nader days.
We're way over the limit
We ignore each warning sign
We're running faster every minute
We're also running out of time
We can't conceal
There's no-one at the wheel
Our sense of entitlement is swollen
Fed by stupidity and greed
We drive this planet like it's stolen
But we're unsafe at any speed
The future that's predicted
is one I don't want to come true
But as a race, we are addicted
it's limiting our field of view
It's not remotely funny
that the environment's a thing
that we can burn so that we can make more money
now that consumerism's king

Now back to that c-r-a-z-y output of yours (still boggles the mind). Oh, environmentalism, that should be a song for me. And yes, it is. The lyrics are very much on point. „We drive this planet like it's stolen“ is such a great line. I really like the blend of synths and guitar which creates a somewhat futuristic but also somber atmosphere.

Topical choice, those heavy guitars fit the subject, really good lyrics and all around well done!

The vibe on this one is great!!! Love the risky emotions from the instrumentals. Ps. My first car was a 20 year old Chevy Corvair... you probably get the Ralph Nader connection there.

Your voice has matured into some rich warm balm. A luxurious coating on all your songs, that can turn an apocalyptic dance number into something that also sounds good for my skin.

Cool combination the seatbelt thing and environment and consumerism. Well done.
I thought the guitar leads in the middle and end sounded really good. Your sounds are always top notch, but I liked the melodies.

This really hits home and as I read that the ERG nutters are now turning their attention to pushing back on the net zero commitment it's also very pertinent.
Superb arrangement and production as always.

Great song, great premise. Huge sound! Growing up in Detroit (really a suburb but still) in the 60s and 70s, man, there was a lot of hate for Nader. I was in Arkansas in the 2000 election, and so my part of the 1.46% of that state who voted for Nader had no role in the outcome. I do think the Corvair was a cool car though. Chrysler should have listened to the engineers in the first place. :/

And I remember when seat belts weren't a thing at all - lol! Our first ones were lap belts that my step dad installed in the family Studebaker.
"Fed by stupidity and greed" - so true. Talk about feeling helpless sometimes. Gotta have Faith, for sure. Don't know how people live without it.
And love this:
"We drive this planet like it's stolen
But we're unsafe at any speed"
Really cool vibe!
