Feb 2022 near death experience fuc baritone ukulele
Those of you who have narrowly escaped the grim reaper will recognise the phenomenon of how time dilates in that moment, so that a few seconds seems to have lasted whole minutes, giving you the ability to notice things you may not have noticed if nothing particular had happened to you in that moment. My narrator describes his NDE and its aftermath and the puzzle it has left in his heart.
Instrument: Baritone Ukulele
(Em) I'm standing at a Zebra Crossing
Waiting for the (D) light to go green
The (C) cars have stopped their lane's on red
It's (Em) just an everyday scene
The (C) walk sign's lit I (G) start to cross
But a (D) car has jumped the (Em) lights
I'm seconds away I realise
From re(C)ceiving (D) the last (Em) rites
My mo(Em)mentum carries me forwards
Into the (D) path of the car
Time (C) slows down in that instant
I'm a (Em) second from au revoir
I (C) catch the eye of the (G) driver
She (D) looks at me like I'm (Em) crazed
But she doesn't slam the brakes on
It's (C) like we (D) both are (Em) dazed
In what I (Em) think are my last moments
I (D) get to study her face
Middle-(C)aged like a favourite Auntie
She may have been (Em) pretty in her day
We're (C) still on a col(G)lision course
That (D) face I will never for(Em)get
She looks annoyed that I'm crossing
No (C) sympathy (D) for me (Em) yet
She's (Em) turning right so her tail gets
To (D) give me a glancing blow
I'm (C) knocked onto the tarmac
But (Em) onwards she still goes
I (C) hear gasps from some (G) onlookers
Who (D) rush to offer (Em) aid
I don't feel any pain at all
But (C) on the (D) floor I (Em) stayed
I (Em) woke up in the hospital
Being (D) told I was badly bruised
"You're (C) lucky nothing's broken!"
But my (Em) mind is still confused
"Did she (C) stop to see how I (G) was?"
Her face (D) vivid in my (Em) mind
"You mean the car that hit you?
No they drove (C) off and (D) left you be(Em)hind"
I've (Em) had no long term consequence
From the (D) blow I received that day
But she (C) must have heard the bang inside
Be(Em)fore she drove away
No-one (C) thought to get her (G) number
There was (D) no CCTV
I'd (Em) just love to ask her one fine day
Why she (C) felt that (D) she should (Em) flee
Since (Em) then I have had nightmares
Where I (D) live through it all again
It was (C) only a few seconds
But they're (Em) seared into my brain
I (C) wonder if she (G) has bad dreams
If she re(D)calls the moment at (Em) all
Is it ever on her conscience
That (C) day I had my (D) closest (Em) call?

I just love the sound of your guitar playing. The baritone is such a nice register....The story that you have told is so detailed and evocative in a classic way. I can see myself listening to this in a pub, with a pint, next to a fire, and just imagining the story unfold in my mind as I listen. Excellent!

Wow. How spectacularly vivid. On the page the lyrics look like a long song, but listening they are completely gripping.

Great storytelling. Nice work. :)

The uke sounds great! Love the picking pattern! I have had plenty of NDE moments 'cause I tend drive a lot for work and for gigs. Those really stick with you and it amazes how some people tend to be unaffected by it... You capture this topic super well in this song!

engaging story telling.... you are so good at leading your audience through the narrative. it is so real it feels like it's happening to me, not some fictional character

Wow! I know what you mean about time standing still. I once should have hit a woman's car, but instead it felt like I hit pillows. We both looked at one another in shock. Later that night an angel was in my room saying it was her I felt. Anyhow, great storytelling!
