Feb 2022 guy-with-guitar
I got women in massachusettes
women in washington state
women in california
on both sides of the golden gate
i got women in the carolinas
women in tennessee
women i woudnt recognize
if they was standin in front of me
chorus
so bury me someplace central
where all roads intersect
so everyone arrives in time
to pay their last respect
i got women in the virgin islands
and the dakotas too
some fresh and some left over
from shore leave in world war two
from vancouver on the river
to vancouver bc
there are women i dont remember
who still have warrants out on me
repeat chorus
i had a woman who owned a hog farm
and one who did the twist
one who could chop wood all day
with a broken wrist
i found some on the chain gangs
some on the senate floor
one who wore a green beret
and one in the peace corps
repeat chorus
i got women in every corner
of these united states
some of them are rebels
some of them are yanks
this is my invitation
for them to come around
and have a big old catfght
as they lay me in the ground
repeat chorus
so bury me someplace central
where all roads intersect
so everyone arrives in time
to pay their last respect

Cool twist form the first verse to chorus, from carefree "I got girlin every port" into bury me someplace where everyone can make it to funeral. Was not expecting that reversal. Very cool piece, had me listening in deep thought the whole way through!

The idea 'bury me someplace central' in this context is funny but there is seriousness to it too. I like it when that happens.

For such a potentially sad song this is hilarious (especially the chorus).
Great take on the old blues theme of a guy claiming to have a woman in every town (or the clichéd sailor with a woman in every port).
PS Glad you liked my little Garage Band experiment.

I love the lyrics, I just hope you're not having to pay maintenance for them all.
The stripped down performance is perfect.

The ultimate hobo casanova country folk tune. nice upbeatness with a pinch of melancholy. Reminds me of a Macedonian tv series about a cop with five wives

I haven't listened yet, but this is pretty damned hilarious. Women I wouldn't recognize?! Ha!! Your delivery is really delightful here. There's something sweet and poignant about the way you sing the lyric, which has an almost silly quality on the page. You definitely make me want to sing along. Really nice tune, really

Such a clever lyric! Definitely not what I expected based on the title but I was enthralled nonetheless. Nicely done!

Love that "wouldn't recognize them" line, too. This is so well-written! Every-single-line!
@arthurrossi Feb 2022
What a lovely song idea and so tastefully written lyrics! Many lovely lines with an awesome irony like in the lines "women i woudnt recognize / if they was standin in front of me". The chorus ties it all up beautifully. Gorgeous tune and performance!

I love this Bill such a great idea and so well written, made me think smile and frown in equal parts.

Great title: funny contrast or irony given this character's behaviour with the "paying their last respects" and the vibe of the song suits it well!
