I got tied up trying to finish something and realized I'd missed the skirmish, but I couldn't resist once I'd seen the prompt, so I jumped on it, and here's my Ode to the Wee folk of Ireland. I totally believed they looked after me throughout my childhood.
Definitely needs some music!
In Dublin town I met a wee man.
I almost didn’t see him,
But he reached right out and took my hand
And not wanting to displease him,
I said as sweetly as I could,
My fine sir do I know ye?
And he said, Lass, well indeed you should
'Twas I who watched ye grow, yeah.
From far away, oh diddle oh day
’Twas I who watched ye grow, yeah.
I was there when you cut your knee
Looking for four leafed clovers,
And watched ye skip round the faerie rings
In crowns of lavender flowers.
Who’d ya think kept ye safe my lass
When ye danced so close to danger?
Who saw to it that ye weren’t snatched
When you sparked the faerie's anger?
From far away, oh diddle oh day,
I saved you from their anger!
When you saw the movie Darby O’Gill
I was one of the little people
And you played your games for weeks on end
In the shadow of St.Pat’s steeple.
You danced your jigs, and how I laughed
Watching your childish antics
And here you are, bless me Irish Soul,
You’ve flown 'crost the Atlantic!
From far away, oh diddle oh day,
You've flown 'crost the Atlantic.
I dropped to my knees and hugged him tight
And said it’s good to meet ya.
I always knew, or at least I guessed
But I never thought I’d greet ya.
He said, on this St. Paddy’s Day,
The time is finally right
I’ll play my fiddle and you can sing.
I only have just one night
From far away, oh diddle oh day
Together for this one night

Ah, as an Irish Citizen, I couldn't miss this one! My roots are in the West where legendary figures and creatures are as real as the peat itself.
Fine lyrics and story. I hope you get someone to put it to music, eventually.

An Irish Leprechaun for a guardian angel - what a creative idea! A very lighthearted and fun set of lyrics.

When I was in Ireland I spent some time in Cork with locals, and they showed me a book of old legends, and this brought back memories of reading passages during my stay; such rich lore there! Well done lyrics, perfect for a Dublin bar.

Oh diddle oh day - I love this! Charming tale - full of the wonder and magic of childhood, and a nice reminder to hold onto some of that throughout our lives.

Wonderful. Excellent story, well written. The refrain made me smile. Great skirmish!

Oh, this is fun! Kind of like a guardian angel, but with a better lilt to his words.

It’s nice to know there is someone or some thing that’s got your back. I’ve often thought that after coming upon an accident that has just happened and realized that If I hadn’t been running late I might have been involved. Hope this one finds a worthy musician.
