Feb 2022 horror gothic lovecraft dance pumping shoggoth-rock christopher-lee
Many years ago I went to a book signing to meet China MiƩville. And in my copy of 'Kraken' (which is an extremely silly and entertaining book involving an embalmed specimen of architeuthis rex, black market shenanigans at the Natural History Museum, and Star Trek) he wrote the title of this song...
A squamous presence
Rugose sense of dread
Feels like H P Lovecraft
got inside my head
These observations
completely unexplained
Eliminate the obvious
Something else remains
And from the headland
Above the noise of crashing waves
I hear the call
It summons all
Long-buried trauma
freshly risen from the grave
drawing pentacles
Surrender to the tentacles...
Amidst the tumult
my cries will go unheard
a strange compulsion
to chant the words

Great feel to this one, very Nick Cave ish, which is a very good thing

Really well done monster piece and spoken word voice over, the piano middle part works well as a transition of darkness.

Great song. I may be being paranoid, any kind of lyric or outside circumstances could be bringing the trauma-tentacles up for you, but if it was me, I'm sorry!! Unless it turns out to be healthy, then glad to be of service - well, no I still I am sorry for the pain in comradely condolence and apology, it can be tough!!

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
I really dig the spoken word on top of the kickass dance music. And well done with the Christopher Lee voice, it really suits the theme!

Ah, Lovecraftian dance music!
Nice break at about 1:20.
I'm liking the guitar soaring around in back there.
Great Christopher Lee voice.
(Not that it matters, but I've never really been able to get into China MiƩville; I find those books to be weird just for the sake of being weird).

I like how you often just start into the first verse without any intro. Your guitars are beautiful as always, and your vocals are stunning as always. Also very well processed, especially liked the difference between chorus and verse.
The intermission at about 1:18 with its rhythmic and instrument changesmixes things up in a good way.

Good back story! It is a good title! Drawing pentacles thats a good one to rhyme! I was going ventricles ha ha. Nice build again. Like that striking instument xylo, glock? Nice.

Dark, brooding, entertaining! If nothing else, you made me buy the Kraken book, now I'll lay back and surrender myself to the tentacles of 90s synth-rock perfection.
