WHAT IF ANIMALS WERE A BIT DIFFERENT, LIKE?
What if there were cets not cats? C G
And degs instead of dogs? D D7
And what if there were bets not bats? C G
And fregs instead of frogs? D D7
Imagine squarrels instead of squirrels F A7
Would they look the same? G G7
Or would their gait be kinda off F A7
Like the slight change of their name G G7
I don’t know C G D D7 (x2) F A7 G G7 (x2)
Would a pheep still have its wool?
A seacock have its bling?
Would a leon still be majestic?
A dird still have its wings?
Would he still go "oo ooo ah ah!"
If he were called a ponkey?
And would ziraffe still have long neck
And would he still look funky?
I don’t know
How about an ectopus
Would she run out of ink?
If pharks were near would she be ate
I don't know what to think!!
The bangaroo could boomerang
And still protect its boey
But could a beer, a female beer
Keep dambi safe when it is snowy?
I don’t know
How about an ectopus
Would she run out of ink?
If pharks were near would she be ate
I don't know what to think!!

Oh wow. This really took me by surprise. Really surreal lyrics and great music to go with it. First it seemed all goofy, but I think there might be a profound philosophy behind the facade. In a "rose by any other name" sort of way. The musical treatment of the lyrics is wonderful, keeping it light but not getting overly jokey.

What a hoot. Wonderfully expressed in song. Makes a great tea time to ponder the questions.

Wonderful lyrics, so funny! Pippa's musical realisation gives the song a depth that is both silly and serious at the same time. I just love the ambivalence there, leaves room for listener to draw their own conclusions and imagine those animals.. btw this reminds me of an artist who made elaborate pictures based on kids' drawings, mostly animals.. they were so creepy and so funny at the same time. I believe it was him but there might be others done that too: http://www.telmopieper.com/kiddie-arts

This makes a weird kind of sense... Maybe I need my meds. :-D
It's brilliant. I love the concept and the realisation. This is a great collab! :-)

Ha, brilliant.
Thanks so much for doing this.
I love it!

This is a peculiar kind of genius - I can't put my finger on why I like it so much, which isn't massively helpful for you if you are looking for useful criticism. Maybe its because my natural inclination would have been to make the music overly jolly and nursery rhyme-like, not this, which is wistful, mostly, with a bit of whimsy maybe, but really quite meditative. Really great though. And there's something just melancholy about contemplating animals that don't exist in a world where there is such rapid loss of biodiversity...
Awesome work anyway. Love it.
