Feb 2022 dark darkwave girl-with-daw electronic electronica fawmtronica ccwelcome
Guess who has a new microphone? Yeah, it's me! This is the first song recorded with the Warm Audio WA-47jr. Such an upgrade, I can't believe it.
This song started out with me, experimenting with the glassy pads. The title followed, and then I started improvising melodies on the guitars, then on the vocals. Somehow it got weirder and darker with every layer.
[V1]
Last night
I lay awake
and counted
my firmament
I felt your thoughts
on my skin
I was colder
than I've ever been
[C]
I see you lost
your light within
But these are mine,
you can't take them
I can't give you
what you seek
for these are mine,
my stars of glass
[V2]
I held my breath
eyes shut
and counted
to thirteen
I felt your judgement
under my skin
So I tore it out
and counted again
[B]
Understand
that I need space
just like the stars
I can't exist
in your embrace
just like the stars
Understand
that I need air
just like the stars
and you are stifling,
stifling me
so set me free
[C]
I see you lost
your light within
But these are mine,
you can't take them
I can't give you
what you seek
for these are mine,
my stars of glass

Geez, you do everything so friggin well.
Voice is awesome.
Lyrics are moody and have a mystique that the listener can form their own story around.
Production has a vibe that hits my listening preferences (and production preferences) so squarely on the head.
Love the strings! Love that snare!
The growly bass works so nicely as a bottom to the floaty feel of the vocals' reverb - sounds so good.
I'm kinda glad I don't do vocals, because I never have to worry about spending a lot on a good mic! lol But congrats on the new gear! It indeed sounds great.
I see your cc tag, but both as a listener and a creator, I have no input, as I simply enjoyed everything you did. I feel everything was done just how it was meant to be. Sound choices are all solid in my opinion. Mix was great - I especially like how the strings were tucked just-so under other instruments - I have a visual of someone clutching a purse...or a 'clutch' (learned that is different than a purse after being told so quite emphatically by some of the women in my family lol) under their arm - the strings are the clutch and the arms and body are the rest of the instruments.
Like I said I love that snare and feel its got a great place in the mix. Vocals are great.
Nah, I have no critiques, sorry! Just praise lol

Beautiful singing and writing. You put so much of exactly the right emotion into your voice. Hooray for the new microphone and for putting it to such great use.

Really good vocals, this has moves along well and has a great electronic sound, nice drum transitions, and those shimmering pads work well!
@hmorg Mar 2022
Brilliant stuff (just like the stars)! Your voice fits the mood and the lyrics perfectly. I'm of one mind with @cblack below, there's nothing about this I don't like.

Wow! Those vocals are so emotive, and those lyrics set a really awesome vibe. There's nothing about this I don't like.
Truly awesome. :)

A sound to get lost in. The tune has a beautiful progression and your voice sounds very good

I like the sound of your voice over this dark track.
Favorite line:
"So I tore it out
and counted again"

Wow. I love listening to this one.

This is FANTASTIC!!! OMG, so very good! The music is stunning and beautiful! Your vocals are so tender yet strong. And beautiful! (Ok, I fell in love with you a little during this song!)
Your lyrics are outstanding. This was a fave,
I felt your thoughts
on my skin
I was colder
than I've ever been
Gawd, that is some fine writing!
This is one of the best songs I've heard this FAWM!!!!
@caseewilson Feb 2022
This is stunning. I adore the lyrics, and I'm a huge fan of glassy sounds, so this is right up my alley. Beautiful, dark and deep.
@karlsburg25 Feb 2022
lovely to discover this and I look forward to working my way through all your huge output. This has a real sadness to it. Its not just the beautiful dark chords and flow with the guitar and synth but the way you express it in the vocals is simply gorgeous. Truly beautiful lyric and a beautufil dark powerful song
@nadine Feb 2022
This is dark and eerie. Reminds me of what is played in wave and gothic clubs around 4 a.m. Great production and a very expressive performance. One of your best tracks this year.
Oh yes, there is a difference in recording. Your voice is so much more present and clearer. I wish I had some space for equipment. Mehhhh!!
@arkka Feb 2022
The more I listen to your work the more I appreciate it. It's all so expressive, which is often (initially I wrote always but had to reassess) my goal. This one is tragically dark. The mood you create here is something I could spend a lot of time in and I couldn't even tell you why if I wanted. Sounds great and feels real-life-serious. Very well placed guitar parts also.
@stephubik Feb 2022
Uuuuh that's dark for sure. Love it, especially the slightly over-the-top break at 1:53 and towards the end again. But easily the best thing are your vocals. You have an extraordinary expressive singing voice.
@grenzgaengerin Feb 2022
Great piece! I really like the 80's synth and vibe you've captured here. Your voice fits this perfectly. By the way, also a beautiful lyric
@whispermouse Feb 2022
Ooooh, you've got all the wonderful gothic things in here. LOVE the vocals and the Mellotron. The chorus lyric is super powerful. Great song!
