Every FAWM I have a point where I just don’t think I’m going to be able to do it this year. For me, that was last night. Usually it’s pretty early in the going, so to have this happen on the 18th was a little scary.
Then this came together.
The lyric about living all at once has been living rent-free in my head for a long, long time. And the inspiration for the title (that’s also been kicking around forever) was “Can I buy a vowel? A, E, IOU.”
This is just how I feel about going into the third year of this pandemic.
Started with a drum line, programmed it then shopped around in Battery 4 for a kit that sounded good with what I'd done. Absynth and Massive X on the pads, Valhalla Supermassive reverb as well as Space Master 2 reverb on the vocals and modular.
As far as the modular setup, Matriarch was the bassline (surprise!), did a pretty simple patch with this one, the vowels - all from Plaits's "vowel and speech synthesis" algorithm, triggered by Marbles, sampled with Kontakt. Dummy patch cable in the 1V/Oct port but it's probably not doing anything honestly.
I started off this life
Tempting fate and death
Didn’t think i’d make it
To see this hell
(do i wish i was right?)
Wanna do my living all at once
While i can still breathe
While i can still FEEL
Before I’m forced to kneel
I’m so fucking tired
Of being so fucking tired
Everything i touch i ruin
Even when it’s brand new
I’m so fucking tired
Of being so fucking tired
And god knows I’ve tried
Just to reconcile
The way I feel with my reality
Maybe the harder we live
The less we feel
When the film of life
Is playing its last reel
And before all this
Went to complete shit
Didn’t it feel like
We were on to something big?
I’m so fucking tired
Of being so fucking tired
Everything i touch i ruin
Even when it’s brand new
I’m so fucking tired
Of being so fucking tired
Everything i touch i ruin
Even when it’s you
Especially when it’s you
Goodbye

Your music is very much it's own thing, but when you sing it feels like a missing link in my 80's vinyl collection. And this chorus, good god. It shifts right to the 90's and intertwines directly to my brainwaves. Emotional, relatable, and delightful.

Man your vocals are fantastic here! You can feel the raw emotion. And that bassline has me salivating! Great track

Great start and build up and stutters to lead into the drums, this track is sharp in its sound and cuts hard, some passionate singing in here, and any appearance of Speak and Spell is going to flavor a track well!

That chorus really spoke to me. That Gen X Angst is still alive & well in both of us, it would seem :D
Those pads are gorgeous, while the beat & drums keep everything so steady. I was getting some Nine Inch Nails vibes from this, could see some distorted guitar adding some umph to the chorus, but it does work as is. And again, you know how much I love your vocal tracks. This one is awesome!
Glad you got over your "I'm not gonna make it this year hump". I'm trying to get over mine right now. Seems to happen every year. Part of the challenge I guess LOL
See You In The Shadows…
