Feb 2022 another rock attempt gah
Another rock song (facepalm). Where does this stuff come from? I don't usually listen to classic rock/blues stuff. But I was watching some Larkin Poe on youtube recently. Those sisters rock. That's probably why this came out.
It's FAWM - I'll take it.
The comments are correct that the vocals are buried in the verses - not sure what happened there. I can't even hear the lyrics. It sounded a lot better in my headphones. Ugh!
It's a Job song, only Job is terrified and maybe a little more willing to accuse. It's a song about trying to regain a sense of trust in relationship, or maybe run, if history says you're just going to get hurt again.
armor
last time I was willing
maybe a little reluctant but I thought I could trust you
to come through for your own sake
but you left me high and dry
these days I keep my distance
I never left you
but you can't expect me to believe that pie in the sky
I'm a little gun shy
are you gonna meet me? 'cause it's urgent
or let my circumstances fry me in the current?
think you're gonna break me? C'mon
I'm coming out with my armor on
face you - am I ready?
if my tongue is a gun then my hand's unsteady
I'm a live wire and I'm wary
we're gonna have it out
or I'm leaving by the back door
with a bulletproof vest and a helmet on my head
I know when I need to get out
I'm not going down
are you gonna meet me? 'cause it's urgent
or let my sorrows pull me under in the current?
are ya gonna hurt me? I can be gone
or I'll be out with my armor on
I'm not opposed to some fighting
but I can't keep on losing
so when I meet you I'm choosing
to defend what's been broken
I don't have to be open
are you gonna meet me? 'cause it's urgent
or let my sorrows pull me under in the current?
are ya gonna hurt me? I can be gone
or I'll be out with my armor on
are you gonna show up? or be quiet?
you should never underestimate your silence
think you're gonna break me? C'mon
I'm coming out with my armor on
I'm coming out with my armor on

Where does this stuff come from?! THIS is what I call excessive FAWMing. I do not listen to jazz and blues, so WHY did that happen?! And why did I discover my metal voice only last year?! Don't ask, be happy that you discovered.
The chord progression and guitar tone in the beginning reminds me a lot of "Love Hurts" from Incubus. You may tweak the input gain of your guitar though. Lyrics are fun to read. Come our with your armor on!

Great 12 fret hormonic at the open...nice distorted guitar and vocals. This matches the tone of the lyrics...sort like a Neil Young driving guitar.
Nice

This to me in the opening, is everything I love about songs like "Good Morning" or "Big Indian" by The Dandy Warhols. Now I'll have to go check out Larkin Poe.
Chorus really works imo. "think you're gonna break me? C'mon / I'm coming out with my armor on" is very hooky and you are, I would hope, pleased with it!
Oh and that's a really good bridge part too. Yeah, this is a good track.

"I'm coming out with my armor on" is such a fantastic line. Job is solid and I can see it here. The harmonies are great too.

That's a great broken speakery fuzzy goodness tone! I agree about Job being a great inspiration... that Heinlein novel Job: A Comedy of Justice is one of my favorites.
Love the lyric, and the vocal... its a matter of taste, but I liked it buried, but I also liked the effect it had as it got clearer as the song goes on... like poor Job was getting more assertive. Great track!

Maybe just me but the vocals were kind of buried in the mix a bit in the first 1/3 of the song. Loving the edge of the fuzzy guitar here though and Job is rarely a bad option for lyrical inspiration. Your voice works well with this style too. (My collab 'Can You?' with Wordsmith I took personally as a riff on Job 38!)
