Feb 2022 rock metal collapsechallenge
The inspiration for this comes from the Collapse Challenge and the wasteful energy consumption and hardware recycle rates of crypto mining, and where the e-waste ends up too often. I am encouraged to see the developments on the Etherium front at least promising to drastically reduce energy consumption and hardware requirements. I used a guitar amp plugin on the lead vocal to get a distorted lead vocal sound.
EZ-Drummer
Fender Jazz Bass
Squier Vintage Modified Strat
Ibanez SA120
Roland XP80 with Vintage Synths card for Mellotron
Hammond B-3 + Leslie
In your darkened room
By the light of your screens
You mine that cyber gold
It’s an addictive thrill
All the racks of your machines
Suck that grid dry
With all that you control
You don’t count the cost
It’s all a game to you
Burn the planet down (with your funny money)
Power meter spinnin’ out of control
C’mon and wreck the world (with your funny money)
Careening recklessly into the black hole
Get the latest hardware
Quick planned obsolescence
Your waste piles to the sky
Toxic metal leaching
Recyclers can’t keep up
But what’s a few dead precious metal miners
And birth defects between friends?
Burn the planet down (with your funny money)
While the third world poor melts down your scrap
C’mon and wreck the world (with your funny money)
But what the hell, who gives a damn?
<gloomy solo section>
Burn the planet down (with your funny money)
Power meter spinnin’ out of control
C’mon and wreck the world (with your funny money)
Careening recklessly into the black hole
Burn the planet down (with your funny money)
Power meter spinnin’ out of control
C’mon and wreck the world (with your funny money)
Careening recklessly into the black hole

The production on this is stellar. Really love that distorted lead guitar among the huge sounding band. This is a serious rocker.

Well said. I had serious problems buying a graphics card last year. And a damn good heavy rock song. The production is so professional, I cannot beleve you did all this during FAWM. This is insane.

Amazing rocking song. Heavy, but with a really great vibe and groove. Awesome message and delivered with power. Just an amazing song from top to bottom. Well done!!

Oh yeah - unusually for me read your lyrics first. Totally! I’m not a metal fan but complete respect - sounds awesome.

Wow.
This is SO COOL.
The hammond balsts. The intensity of the choruses. That solo and the tonal twists it takes.
This is the real deal.
Absolutely one of those songs I would play to folks to showcase how amazing FAWM is.
I love it!

This sounds great, very 90s, very intense. I like the organ in there and the guitars sound great.

Rock n Roll! This is awesome. I very much am digging how you processed the vocal, I’d definitely continue to experiment with that if I were you (in fact I might do some of that today if I were me ). Timely subject as well!

I love the chord change that immediately precedes the verse lyric. Reminded me just a tad of Judas Priest (in the best possible way!). You seem to have this knack of playing exactly what need to be played on Hammond... not shocking, I suppose! I continue to be surprised, though, and delighted with your guitar chops!

Wow, superb work on the challenge. This is like a mix of Motorhead and Seether. The energy is brutally honest and performed exceptionally well. Excellent job!!!

Nevermind quantity, the quality of your work is outstanding. You’re slaying it on this track. The verse gives me heavy King’s X vibes (they’re one of my favorite bands ever), and in general your vocals are so good on this one. I also really dig the song idea, a really good subject for as song.

A blues-y grunge song about crypto? Sign me up. Cool take on the collapse challenge.
