Feb 2022 boatnames neoclassical ghost-ship barcarolle guy-with-piano
Tim sez: how could I resist a ghost story, ghost ship, sails, mystery? And a late 19thC barcarolle seemed just right. No lyric fiddling needed either!

She was Dark Secret
Only sailed at night
Some say she was a ghost boat
Both in and out of sight
She was Dark Secret
A crew was never seen
Is she here or another world
Or somewhere in between?
[Chorus]
Was that the wind in her sails?
Just beneath the silver moon
Floating by the coast of Wales
Was she here then gone too soon
She was Dark Secret...Dark Secret
She was Dark Secret
What story would she tell?
Had she sunk in the past
Then returned from hell?
She was Dark Secret
The truth cannot be found
A lady keeps her secrets
Sailing without a sound
[Repeat chorus]

A lady keeps her secrets… this is a wonderful ghostly tale, and you gave it the perfect musical swells to carry it home, wherever that might be.

The hushed telling of a half-told story about a ship in between the veils. Well connected tissue of story and setting.

Admiring the strength of the simple phrase "she was Dark Secret."
The space in the chorus that gives room for the turns of musical phrasing is extremely pleasing.
Everything seems just right about this. Wow, so many ghosts and hauntings this FAWM. Has this been a trend I've been missing, or did it take up this year in a big way?

Wonderfully poetic lyric. I love the sparse descriptive lyrics as delivered perfectly with the quiet delivery of vocals that almost go to a whisper at times -perfect for a dark secret. Lovely piano. Wonderful collaboration.

A suitably dark ghost boat story feel to cindy's evocative lyric. I love it. A mariner's "oral history" told in music and metaphor. Very nice. Perfect collab.
Is it Port Ferry there near the victorian/SA border, It brought to mind memories of the wind blowing over those high rolling hills looking out across the water so many moon's ago.

Oooh, I got goosebumps. Love the ominous lyrics that leave you guessing. And the beautiful piano accompanying the deep and soft vocals. Amazing collab.

I do love a sad melody and especially that 1 7 6 chord movement. It really is the perfect music for this story. Cindy you have created a really beautiful set of words and Tim what can i say you are a bit of a magician. I love the fact it has that gorgeous hint of ye old folk song feel to it as well . Very celtic

That melody is dark yet beautiful, what a match for this lyric. Writing something like this and then hearing a piano sing it back to you has to be such a joy for Cindy.....great collab!!
@crisp1 Feb 2022
Cool story by Cindy and wonderfully and suitably dark interpretation by Tim. Very enjoyable piano.
@mikeb Feb 2022
Actually using a name from the Boat Names challenge to tell a story of a boat! Nice story and piano interpretation.
@karan Feb 2022
Whoa, this is an enchanting story, beautifully written and performed! I love that you don't disclose the mystery ...
@cindyrella Feb 2022
Oooo this is so eerie, haunting, and I live it! The piano couldn't be better. The whispered lines make it a treasure! Thanks so much!
@billwhite51 Feb 2022
vividly told story of a ghost ship made more spooky by tims lost-at-sea vocals and piano drif ting in the simplicity of despair,
