Feb 2022 guy-with-guitar
A quick little one take of a song that I wrote VERY early this morning. I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. I read for a while and then this popped out of me so I got it down on my iPhone; hence the simple recording.
There is a forum topic about the moon that was the inspiration for the write. The moon was extraordinarily bright this morning in the wake of the worst storm to hit the South of England since 1987.
A four and a half billion year old satellite,
Lights up this February evening just for you,
I’m not sure why it’s drifting away?
I guess thats just what satellites do.
Even if tomorrow was the last day on earth,
I’d still plant a tree just for you.
If you do it for long enough, falling can feel like flying,
Laughter can feel like crying,
Breathing can feel like panic,
Love can feel like hatred,
And life can feel like dying.
And that’s what it took from you,
You were never really able to breathe back in,
All the air he knocked out of you.
Some puzzle pieces got lost or broken,
And you couldn’t put it all back together again.
Boats that stay in the harbour are safe,
But that is not what they’re designed for,
So even if tomorrow is our last day on Earth,
I’ll still plant a tree just for you,
You were never really able to breathe back in,
All the air he knocked out of you.

Your voice is so beautiful. Excellent guitar too.

Ahhh so i'm back on the listening train and how wonderful to hear this. The subtleness of the guitar is just perfect with these lyrics and your projection in the vocal is simply gorgeous. A stunning song matey
@sueawesome Feb 2022
this is so comforting (your voice and guitar) and confusingly sad (some jerk guy knocking the wind out of someone)… and beautiful (the thought that even if all life came to an end.. the narrator would execute one last act of hope to keep someone’s memory alive). it would be interesting to explore where the story continued - how planting a tree might impact the air quality (her breath), life force, hope, etc.

Found on the "recommend thread"
Just amazing. Absolutely wonderful lyrics.
vocals and guitar... magic.
"love can feel like hatred"
*sigh* ain't that the truth.
Thank you so much for giving us this song and a download. This will one I put on my March playlist. So beautiful.
@leepat Feb 2022
if you do it long enough…

wonderfully intimate - congrats on the win
@theawkwardsleep Feb 2022

Just lovely. Stunning performance and guitar, and the lyrics are just haunting. Favorite lines: "If you do it for long enough, falling can feel like flying" - this is a song that asks for multiple listens in a row!
@panch Feb 2022
The world really is different at 3am. I love that motif on the guitar and the lyrics are beautifully poetic. So pleased you got this one down "in the moment". Excellent.
@bandybum Feb 2022
O that's a gorgeous opening, voice and guitar seem to flow together just perfectly, delightful lyric and beautiful song crafting. Bravo :)
@kadmad202 Feb 2022
Oh, this is lovely. There's a simplicity here, and also a depth. The lyrics are so compelling, and your almost whispered vocals evoke longing, melancholy, and hope ("I'd still plant a tree just for you"). The middle section with all the comparisons hit me right in the heart. I'm sorry you couldn't sleep, but thankful this was the outcome.
@tan482 Feb 2022
Ooh, I really love the guitar in this. So simple but effective. And the lyrics just sparkle. As always, your vocals are crisp and spot-on.
@davidtaro Feb 2022
So many beautiful lines containing so much wisdom. 3am is peak wisdom time, it seems! The ‘still plant a tree for you’ is particularly brilliant. Works so well as a simple phone recording. Well done!
@ampersandman Feb 2022
This is absolutely beautiful. Love it. Nothing else to say except for: congrats on 14!
@max Feb 2022
What's there to say when it's so good..........
I'm terrible when it comes to giving comments on impressive artwork like this. Sorry, just listening.
@sbs2018 Feb 2022
This is so lovely! The perfect song for 5 am this morning! Reminds me of James Blunt.
@tcelliott Feb 2022
This is beautiful. The guitar, your vocal, the melody and the lyric are all lovely. This is excellent.
@donna Feb 2022
This is wonderful. A theme after my own heart. So many excellent lines, like 'if you do it for long enough, falling can feel like flying' - in fact that whole section. Every line is a gem. The melody is compelling, as are the vocals. And that simple approach is wholly appropriate.
Here in the Netherlands we felt the full force of storm Eunice yesterday as well. Quite an experience. Interestingly, I was looking at the moon last night and thinking too that it was especially bright.
@jacobeverettwallace Feb 2022
Oh this is lovely man. I love the hushed conversational style of the lyric and delivery. I think a little tag/refrain with some vocal "oohs" in between the sections would be nice. Lots of good stuff here!
