Feb 2022 alternative-rock indie-pop singer-songwriter avatarchallenge
Wrote this late last week. Kind of the usual path for me — absent-mindedly noodling and next thing I had the bulk of the song mapped out. Not really my initial intention, but, to me, the song has a real London Calling-era Clash feeling. Last thing — I added a clarinet (sample, of course, I'm no reed player!) in the bridge.
Do you really think that’s blood you’re drinking?
Well, I have my doubts
Wine is wine, to me
And Bread is bread
A rose always a rose
What does it matter
What I think, if you think that it's true
But zealots tell white lies as easily
As those who never care
And even shadows can’t deny
Can’t deny there’s light
Why do you work so hard convincing me
What I think isn’t real?
Like figures in the stars
They only breathe
When we stare at the sky
Occam's razor never left its cuts
On your fevered mind
Your impatient sighs are signaling
That you think I’m naive
Even Charon can’t deny
Can’t deny there’s light
If someone’s watching us
Is there someone else watching them?
All those tricks and schemes
I don’t think we’re that interesting
And if a tree falls
Does it mean that someone
Had to cut it down?
Even phantoms can’t deny
Can’t deny there’s light

I'm starting to feel like a stalker but thanks for uploading the original, this has a charm that cant be matched. I'll just download it right now!

Oh my, Aristotle, Aquinas, Dante, and the Late Medieval Schoolmen in a 70s punk setting. This is delighfully literate. I like how you couch the skeptic's questions in metaphors that make them more powerful than if they were drily direct. I don't share your (apparent) metaphysical skepticism, but I like how you ask the questions. The "figures in the stars" and the twist on "If a tree falls..." are especially good. The music is great: I like the lengthened "deny..." with its stepping down the chord tones and its harmonies. Really good buildup to it too. Love the hyperactive trebly bass.

Hell yeah I freaking love this! There is a really amazing push and pull between atonality and harmony on this really nicely done. So catchy. There’s a Bowieish sound to the vocals and sounds great. I’m going to listen a few times love this verse melody.

I was thinking Clash! I think it started out and ended with an unabashed cry of atheism!. But you can't deny there's light. Actually this captures a struggle that lives in many people. I like your vocals. They work with this.
