Feb 2022 acoustic manditar wanderlust folk story roadtrip guy-with-guitar mandolin one-take
I started the lyrics at the beginning of the month but finished them up and set to music later. Recording is a one-take recording on with my phone at my kitchen table. If you are listening on headphones, you can hear perfectly timed trucks driving down my street at just the right times in the recording.
Coastal Coin Flip – February 2, 2022
Coin flip determined direction
Tailwind, bop out of Chicago
Heading westward on I-90 now
La Crosse, the Mississippi river
On the Dresbach Bridge
The crescent moon above
Just call me Kerouac
Chorus:
Transportation, Transcontinental
Your way, my way, bisect, byway
Northern, Eastern, Southern, Western
Interconnected, Interstate
In a state, on the highway
Again
Golden Sunrise, South Dakota
Magic hour on the horizon
The Badlands weren't that bad at all
“I'll sleep when I die”
Is what I always say
All night and all day
Just call me Neal Cassady
Wyoming, Montana, Idaho
Lookout pass, the Bitteroot Range
Welcome to Washington State
Puget sound, Seattle
Coastal coin flip, seaport city
Determines direction and destination
Interstate to San Francisco

Glad you finally made it to San Francisco in this song. Why didn’t you just stay here? I like how the chorus sits the last time around.

I will Google manditar, sounds nice. I like the strum you used for this song, sounds like a car bouncing along the highway, mile after mile. Interesting rhyme/ verse pattern too. #tit4tat is great to profile so many song styles that I am not familiar using. Nice song.

This one feels just like a cross country drive with the top down and no sign of rain.

Sounds like a classic from the 1930's great feeling to this. I'd not head of a mandator before it sounds great. Certainly has a road trip feel to it.
@chrismyth02 Feb 2022
the raw nature of this and your phrasing and the pacing reminds me of some older modest mouse stuff... that chorus is catchy as hell.

The muted, chugging mando does a great job of driving (pun intended) this along, and of course the lyrics, which are full of great images and possibly mixed meanings (like "in a state, on the highway"). And lots of names of cities and states thrown in, always has a way of making a song feel bigger, in a sense. And finally, your vocal is energetic and heartfelt, doing a great job to deliver the goods.

Neal, Jack and Dan.
Cool travelling tune.
The chugging rhythm of the guitar matches the vocals... and the stops and string mutes are cool too. You got me (Road) Trippin'

Such great use of words here -- I love the chorus especially -- and "your way, my way, bisect, byway" and "interconnected interstate." The mix of specific geographic bits with relevant observations ("Just call me Kerouac") is effective. And I'm bopping in my chair while listening.

love the energy and range of this, and love your shout outs to all those beat poetry idols, etc. that lo-fi recording is perfect for this, too! sounds like a 'message from the road' - great energy and phrasing in this, too!
