a continuation of my new quest to compose songs where all instrumentation (except vocals and percussion) come from different patches of the same synthesizer.
this one features the roland jupiter-8 emulation from the "arturia v collection." one bass, one pad, and two leads.
so far all my lyrics this year are coming out kinda dark or maudlin... hopefully it's just the retro synthy vibes?
mixed in headphones. did my best. moving on...
when you let me up
i feel it coming down
like petals from a vine
and when you close my hand
a sense of heat comes in
this mortal coil of mine
help me help you
try something real and feel it through
help me help you
when you let me in
i feel it coming out
it's only a matter of time
and when you close my eyes
a glimpse of light comes in
and unseen faces shine
help me help you
try something real and feel it through
help me help you
when you let me on
i feel it coming off
slipping past our prime

This is dreamy synth pop! love the sounds and the arrangement. The vocal is laid back and works perfectly. Love the lyrical juxtaposition/
Really like this one Burr!

This is all kinds of awesome. The backing is so dreamy and lush, which works well with the low key vocal lines. The interplay between the different synth patches is fantastic.

Sounds great dude! I think the retro synth sounds have to bring a little darkness to the lyrical content…it can’t be helped lol this reminds me a bit of the music from midnight gospel, that guy is super into modular synths…then the vox are pretty dreamy/hypnotic. Very cool track man!

Groovy trippiness fun!
The help me help you is both sentimental and condescending at the same time, that’s great songwriting!
Sounds pro

Trippy and interesting. Nice mix and the sounds fit the lyrical presentation. Well done!

Great track! The chord progressions are so neat and everything fits together. I listened to it many times in a row and now I'm all relaxed. One of my favorites this year.

Lovely dream pop vibe. (Looks up, spots dream-pop tag. Well done.). The mirroring in the vocal melody and synth lead works really well.
Awesome set of sounds, very cool tune!

I just love the mix on this (listened on headphones). The synth is super cool. The delayed vocals really add to the mysterious sound. Sweet track.

Great selection of sounds, def sounds retro. I like the balance in timber between the synths and vocal, and the busy instrumental break before “ when you let me on”

This is really wonderful- its a very evocative lyric which works well with all those slippery synth sounds. Can't speak to the technical stuff, but it seems to be that old fawm adage- when you put self-imposed limits (in this case, all the sounds are from one synth, right?) then the mind creates possibilities and pathways alot easier then if you just had endless choices. Love that Shakespeare reference 'this mortal coil' btw :)

That approach to building the instrumentation makes a great sound - weirdly, sonically, it has an Richard David James thing going on, but with a nice dreampoppy lightness to it, instead of all the techno nonsense ;)
The chord and melodic progressions are beautifully intertwined, especially the the synth parts that play around with the counterpoint harmonies.
Oh, and rhythmically, there's so much intricacy to how the different parts play off each other, yet you somehow manage to make it all sound completely cohesive. I wish to copy that skill!

Love the vibe of this - lyrics have a beauty, so relatable. The synth music and your vocals are a really good match.

I also got the Arturia collection, and I have been digging in DEEP this fawm...it's kind of a game changer if you ask me. Really inspiring how many good sounds you can get, as evidenced by this song! This one is just beautiful, so many good tones here, just bouncing around, love your vocals on the whole thing too, and the 'help me' chorus really works.
