Feb 2022 folk acoustic-one-take alt-tuning baritone
I have a bunch of songs in process, but due to health reasons I haven't been able to get them done. I wanted to get something out soon to stay on track.
Enter my habit of going to alternate tunings. I jammed out an idea, went with it. I feel like this could improve with a bit more polish, but the idea is definitely there.
Tuning - BF#BEF#B (DADGAD on a Baritone with a capo +2)
Acoustic one take - first take.
There was
A mountain
Made of gold
That shone
Like desert fire
We burned
All our instruments
To sing of
Midas desire
And we sang
The sweetest song
Like honeysuckle lies
The trap snap shut
And swallowed all the flies
And we laughed
As we passed by
Like a jingling
sound of gold
Crossed the road
And left them
In the cold
We will march on
To the mountain
For this rock
Shall not be moved
Until our loyalty
Is proved
There was
A mountain
Made of gold
That shone
Like our desire
It rang with
Hollow halls
And burned
With unending
Fire
And we
gloried in the sound
Let the gold
Inside us ring
And missed
The darkness
Falling
On our wings
We aimed our
Pricing guns
And traded blood for gold
Until all that was left to us
Was cold
Magnetic metal
Pulls us
Bending every
Knee and eye
Our loyalty
Has led us
Here
To die
And all it wants
Is more
And all there is
Is more
We’ve sold
All we’ve ever loved
For more
The touch has
Stacked us
On the pile
There is
A mountain
Made of gold

Gorgeous chords! And dramatic, eerie mood. Scary scary words - a nightmare!

I love the words and imagery in the lyrics.

The open tuning gives is a really dark undertone, but it really suites the song. Some really cool chord changes in there too - really caught me off guard in a good way.

This is a great song Eric, important and well written lyrics. That tuning you’re using sounds fantastic! Nice performance.

Capitalism was a mistake.
Good song, and the performance brings it out well!

Love the pounding rhythm of the guitar driving the story., punctuated by the emotive vocals.

A fascinating metaphor. The Baritone sounds really good on this.
