I always love getting to sing Donna's lyrics and to take them someplace, whether or not it's anywhere near the place she had in mind. Thank you, Donna, for allowing me the pleasure.
Donna sez: Ah, dang, Jeff!. (-: What a pretty melody, and the vocals feel so heartfelt. I like the tempo as well. So pleased you enjoyed working with the lyric. I knew you'd do it proud. (-:
The Waltz
V1
I know you think
Your music has stopped
And you feel like a phantom
The opera forgot
Pre-chorus
But hold on, my dear
Take a breath
Chorus
For the waltz is the same
Though the music may change
The waltz will always define us
The dance to our Life's unforeseeable songs
Will refine us
V2
I know you want
To give up and leave
On a floor full of splinters
Your tender feet bleed
Pre-chorus
But hold on, my dear
Take a breath
Chorus
For the waltz is the same
Though the music may change
The waltz will always define us
The dance to our Life’s unforeseeable songs
Will refine us
Bridge
So let the tears flow
They belong to the river
Where all sorrows go
Your curtain’s not ready to fall
You’ve actually waltzed with panache, my dear
No, you haven’t danced badly at all
Chorus
For the waltz is the same
Though the music may change
The waltz will always define us
The dance to our Life’s unforeseeable songs
Will refine us

Ooh, this is SO nice! Marvelous lyrics (as expected) from Donna and a mellow delivery by Jeff! Perfect!

How did I miss this one, Jeff's deep voice and Donna's lyrics - excellent collab!
The fiddle part really provide a nice contrasting backing to the melody.

This one got the shiver response on the second verse, and again in the Bridge. What a lovely song. I didn't need it to be in a waltz time signature in order to feel the waltz. I love the line "So let the tears flow, they belong to the river." And the sweet compliment at the end of the bridge melted me. I love this!

I am so thrilled to hear Donna's moving lyrics with Jeff's beautiful heartfelt music and vocals. All the pieces fit so perfectly together. I love this so much. Great collaboration.

Lovely arrangement, Jeff. I was surprised you didn't actually go with a waltz signature of 3/4 but I realize the waltz is used as a metaphor in Donna's fantastic lyric. Your vocal performance is stellar as usual. Nice one, matey.

Very beautiful song with elements of country, folk and a very special atmosphere. I loved Donna's lyrics and I was hoping for a very beautiful music but it is even more beautiful then I could ever imagine.

This is sweeter than I could've imagined! That fiddle just pulls at my heartstrings, and the delivery fits the lyric like a glove. Well done you two!
@oswlek Feb 2022
Lovely. The approach is perfectly appropriate and it's easy to hear how great this would sound delivered by a roomful of pros. Donna said the lyrics had a ways to go, but I thought they were pretty much ready to go.
Well done!

"You feel like a phantom the opera forgot" -- one of my favorite lines from this FAWM, Donna! Jeff, you've rendered this perfectly. It's gentle and country and waltzes along just beautifully. So happy you two paired up for this dance!

Easy to listen. Like the fiddle. It adds feeling. I like "The waltz will always define us" and the "floor full of splinters make your tender feet bleed". Thanks

Beautiful song. Love the old country stylings. Great fiddle.
