Spent a little time listening to YouTube videos of pop stars like Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande -- not my normal music diet. And that led to this, just thinking about the heady rise to the top. I don't know their biographies, but I was imagining someone who came from almost nothing but has the savvy to take on the world and beat it on her own terms.
Goddess of sounds
Making the rounds
Watch the jaws drop
’Cause her singing astounds
Crawls on a table
Like Garbo to Gable
Life was so hard
Now she stars in a fable
She’s flexing
And phoning
And texting
And owning
The next thing you know
She’ll be right in your face
From Seoul to Geneva
She’s the new diva
She’s earning her place
In the pantheon
Dives in the pool
Too hot for cool
She jokes around
But she’s nobody’s fool
No one is greater
At raking in paper
Sees what is what
And nothing escapes her
She’s flexing
And phoning
And texting
And owning
The next thing you know
She’ll be right in your face
From Seoul to Geneva
She’s the new diva
She’s earning her place
In the pantheon
She’s earning her place
In the pantheon
Her name’s
On a hundred marquees
Valets
Fight to grab her keys
A Lamborghini Roadster
Cost a bit more than your toaster
And she’ll drive it up the coast for
A quick getaway
But in the real day-to-day
The stage is where she belongs
Singing all her hit songs
To a world she adores
They’re screaming for more
And she’s giving it
She’s flexing
And phoning
And texting
And owning
The next thing you know
She’ll be right in your face
From Seoul to Geneva
She’s the new diva
She’s earning her place
In the pantheon
(2X)
(Outro)
In the pantheon
(Repeat)

These well written lyrics bring to life this whirlwind of a woman who claimed her success on her own terms and is loving it. Wonderful description and rhyming Doug. Once again, another beautiful set of lyrics

Ha! This is really fun. "Costs a bit more than your toaster" indeed!

Thats really good mate! I really like this one. Great use of language tying all the threads together! They still keep appearing!

You better have poured yourself a stiff drink after listening to diva-pop today! LOL
A solid write that doesn't go the way I might go with it - I don't have a lot of respect for the genre!

An apt metaphor for the pop market, and good empowering lyric.
