Feb 2022 synthpop krautrock zecoopdrums
Time to dust of the ol' Microkorg. Also time to utilise some of @zecoop 's awesome drum tracks.
I really like the song "Futureworld" by Trans Am, and periodically try to copy it. This is one of those attempts. The lyrics are random dystopian sounding nonsense. I like to think of it as an antithesis to my more utopian entry to the Monorail Song Fight a few months ago.
I would point out that I think my ability to mix properly is completely shot by this point, but this would only be angling for reassuring comments from you lot telling me how ****ing great I am.
Oh yeah, and the title is a reference to the film Hackers, the Honest Trailer of which I watched the other day, and how everyone in that film uses rollerblades as their main mode of transportation, which is hilarious.
Edit: I did a little mix tweak to try and bring the non-vocoded vocals up a bit. It might not be enough but I didn't want to overdo it as I don't really want them front and centre. Might still need to readjust though.
Standing in the acid rain
My skin slowly corroding
Looking up towards the clouds
My mind is still uploading
The robots in my nursery
Will teach me how to feel
Is everybody digital
Is anybody real
Sitting in the underground
My retinas eroding
I don't know where the air comes from
My lungs will start exploding
The robots in my nursery
Will teach me how to feel
Is everybody digital
Is anybody real

Great use of the zecoop drums. You've totally nailed the krautrock ethos. That filthy bass sound is bone-rattling! I don't really know Trans Am but it reminds me of AK/DK.

Hey you! You're great! Seriously this is so good. The whole vibe is incredibly well done.
Love that Vangelis bass (sorry, I've not heard the Trans Am record) that sends you off on the whole future mini-odyssey. Like others have said, the duet is brilliant. The vocoder is only just decipherable so it's like you're translating from the robot, as a human interface.

Hell yeah vocoder duet krautrock synthfilth! This is excellent, I love how the bass starts feeling a little unsteady later on like everything's about to melt down into a radioactive hellscape. Definitely captured some of that Trans Am vibe, I saw them on tour with The Fucking Champs once and I'd love to hear you or SOMEONE do a song in the style of their 'Policenauts' next, cheers.

You're fucking great. Krautrock is absolutely my bag, so I'm well into to this. The vocoder/telephone effect call and response stuff is really cool, and that chord change into the chorus is a very nice touch

I dig that influence, love the Futureworld record too. Cool synth choices. Mix-wise I think the sung/spoken vocals should be a little more upfront and the vocoder a tad back. But overall a really cool song that got me groovin along.

The human-robot duet is brilliant and totally places this song in an amazing cyberpunk world.

Great inspiration for a song, I love it when films dedicate themselves to an aesthetic and the rollerblade is really evocative of that lates 90s early 00s influence.
'Is everybody digital, Is anybody real' is a great line, especially in relation to the nursery reference and it slowly dawning on the children that they haven't yet met a real person. But maybe we're entering Matrix territory?
This also reminds me of some song on the Neil Young album Trans, it's got this kind of vibe, very satisfying. You should turn the backing vocals up a bit . Nice!
