We're waiting for Storm Eunice here in Amsterdam, after it's had its way with the UK. Cue poor reporter standing in front of dangerously high waves somewhere on the coast...
The birds in trees seem to know that it’s coming
I’m glad to be safe indoors
They say it will start in the west at the coast
Before it crosses the land
Trains have been cancelled and roads have gone quiet
There’s barely a soul to be seen on the streets
Nature has a way of getting attention
Enough to blow you off your feet
But I pity the poor reporters
Who try to show the worst of the storm,
Standing in winds that you shouldn’t be in
Shouting as they look to the camera
But after, the aftermath will surely come
And things will be put right again
The rain and the wind, the trees on the ground
The birds will find a new home again

A lovely melancholy little song. You are right, nobody considers the plight of the newsreader sent out in the most dreadful weather to read a piece to camera that boils down to "it's windy out".

This is not a snapshot. It is a lovingly painted portrait en plein air. I can see it, I can hear it, I feel the bracing winds, I smell the salt air and taste the raindrops.

Lovely writing about a great subject, and a fitting tribute to those hardy souls—not the ones in their hugely expensive winter coats filing pieces to camera for the national networks, but the poor buggers from regional stations trying to survive with a kagoule and a scarf their mum knitted. They're the real heroes here.
