Song #3. Been playing around with this idea for a while but couldn't figure out lyrics. Finally wrote out a version I was happy with tonight. Recorded live with one mic. Did about 5 takes that I like, but ended up going for this one because it's got more energy/edge to it.
I set out walking
Radio guiding my way
Tuned to the station
That would not lead me astray
I can't see in the dark
But I knew your name
A touch and a spark
And a picture worth a frame
I'm calling to you
Trying to bend time and space
Please tell me you hear me
Don't need to move to change place
I can't see in the dark
But I knew your name
A touch and a spark
And a picture worth a frame
Dreams
Wake into the day
Dreams
Wake into the day
Tonight I'm drifting
With you to guide my way
But I don't need dreams
When the waking's just the same
I can't see in the dark
But I knew your name
A touch and a spark
And a picture worth a frame
Dreams
Wake into the day
Dreams
Wake into the day

This sounds great Todd. It is reminiscent of 80s sounds of alt radio songs I used to love. Kind of puts me in mind of Waterboys. If that makes sense. In a good way. I like the guitar sound and live feel. I have no confidence to sing and play at same time. So I admire that. Nice work again.

These live takes of songs you’ve worked with for a while make a noticeable difference. It was smart to do several takes and go with the one that feels right to you. This one does have a great energy to it and in my head I can totally hear it produced as a pop song, with horns or strings even, like R.E.M. might do in their “Automatic for the People” era. Must be nice to have a radio station that doesn’t lead you astray, must be a KEXP thing rather than the one I “currently” listen to. Great lyrics as usual, great song Todd!

Very much enjoyed the rawness and vulnerability of this. Felt like a song to me!
