This song came out of a moment I had whilst walking by the river near my home. I felt particularly vulnerable that afternoon when I saw two men ahead of me and I was alone in the bush. The song is just bringing to light how hard it is to still feel like that in this day and age.
I am very thankful to Liz (@fearlessflight14) who added some gorgeous harmonies and a bass part which helps the song to move along as if on a walk. The bass part is especially amazing as I did not have much idea what chords I was playing on the banjo so she got practically zero guidance in that department!
She went for a walk, no-one to talk to at all
Surrounded by the trees, no-one to please, thank you or call
Mmmmm
She felt very small, the trees were tall and dark and brown
How was she to know she shouldn't go away from town
Mmmmm
It was up ahead she saw some red, was it a bird?
She looked round and she found it was voices that she heard
Mmmmm
They were standing there without a care on river's side
She felt her heartbeat down to her feet, where could she hide?
Mmmmm
It's a shame that she's to blame in this sorry state
When we feel safe and put our faith in change?
She walked up the hill where it was still, no-one around
Wiped away the tears and faced her fears on solid ground
Mmmmmm
She went for a walk, no-one to talk to at all
Surrounded by the trees, no-one to please, thank you or call
Mmmmmm
It's a shame that she's to blame in this sorry state
When we feel safe and put our faith in change?

I love this....I also love that experience of going for a walk and having the start of a song arrive, which leads to more walking and working out how the song will go. The very spiritual and mindful part of writing music. That experience comes through in this song....it's like I can feel it myself. Wow, this is really great--the original melody and banjo just move along in such a complimentary way and then they are joined by some new friends, harmonies and bass! Great result and song. Well done!

Ahhh what a beautiful dreamy song, with just enough unease to paint the picture. So tastefully don’t, those harmonies! Great storytelling too, just beautiful

Beautifully done. So sorry you don’t feel safe while out on a walk. Sad…Meanwhile, this song is delightful. The vocals, harmonies, banjo and bass…it all works so well together. Very glad I listened.

The banjo is sooo effective here with that little walking figure downward. It has a modal feel which is really interesting and the harmonies are so pretty.

Like you, I am sad that these feelings are still so very true. And yet it's so pretty! I especially like the harmony on the chorus, it's so bittersweet.

A sad story of how circumstances and things that happen to someone can affect their ability to 'be in the moment'. The picked banjo and bass provide an excellent musical background for this.

Great lyrics that makes you think, and with a perfect accompaniment to illustrate the footsteps. Simple really does it sometimes! :) Well done on keeping a steady beat. Sweet harmonies, great vocals. Nicely done!

Ooh, this is really pretty. The descending chords and vocals give the whole song a melancholy feel that echoes the lyrics. Your vocals are lovely (different from your usual stuff) and the harmonies are lovely from Liz too.
Really beautiful and calming listen. Great collab.
