Haven't decided on how to approach the musical side yet, but it may wind up as a rappish verse with a sung chorus.
Change the World J.R. Peiffer 2/17/2022
Mahalia Jackson, Pete Seeger, Josh White, Woody Guthrie,
Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bob Marley,
John Lennon, Mavis Staples, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke,
The list goes on and on because they all wrote the book.
‘Imagine’ if ‘a hard rain’ would ‘help’ our ailing planet.
‘What’s goin’ on’ wasn’t just ‘between the wars’ and ‘panic.’
If ‘nine to five,’ ‘we the people’ changed ‘the way it is’
and left our sons and daughters a healthy place to live.
The people sing, “We gotta change.” How many hearts are stirred?
How many voices ringing will it take to change the world?
Jane Goodall, Al Gore, Bill McKibben, Greta Thunberg,
Wendell Barry, Erin Brokovich, Peter Garrett, Alice Walker,
David Brower, Selina Leem, Teresa Baker, Paul Watson,
Ansel Adams, Abby Barrows, Carl Sagan, Rachel Carson,
Vandana Shiva, Chico Mendes, Anna Joyner, John Muir,
So many show the way so that our species might endure.
The people sing, “We gotta change.” How many hearts are stirred?
How many voices ringing will it take to change the world?
Will we go down in denial quoting blather from the Bible?
Will humanity’s distinction be a self-induced extinction?
The people sang, “We gotta change,” but how few hearts were stirred?
How many voices silenced did it take to change the world?

Being too old to really know the lingo, I'll go ahead and say I hear this one as rappish, or is it Hip-hop. I don't really know the finer distinctions, but would welcome any enlightenment on these forms and their offspring.
