Feb 2022 garageband country ladyvox memories ccwelcome
#ccwelcome - how could I produce this to sound finished? does it need a bridge? is it too long?
I'm really proud of this one because 1) I mostly wrote it on a plane and 2) I did all the musicking in garage band, which was new to me.
I had the idea for the lyrics and was on a flight; I put garage band on my phone and played around until I got the chord progression I liked then did the rest of the lyrics.
I tried going back to a guitar after but I really liked the way the "piano" did on the chord progression.
Also added the twangy guitar "melody" bit to country it up a little
Then exported and recorded the final vocals in Audacity
Also, all true stories. except I think the aux cable was actually an FM radio transmitter but that did NOT fit the lyrics. :P
Leaving in the morning after a house party on winter break
pulled out happy, got a little crazy but there's nothing wrong today
New England is cold in January
But I've only got a few weeks to stay
so put the top down baby / get the aux cable ready
i got a new playlist to play
called it Romance on Fire / songs of love and desire
and some anger from Mayday Parade
Keep the heat on, coat zipped, gloves on my fingers
yeah it's cold but that won't stop
me from singing with the top down in this little red ragtop
heading to the local diner for high school lunch break
cash only tables, flirting with the waitress, they do breakfast and lunch all day
it's just a quick ride down the highway
but we've only got an hour to play
so put the town down baby / got the aux cable ready
whadda we wanna listen to today
I know you don't love country / but that key change in Love Story's
going to blow your mind anyway
get our hair up, shades on, sunscreen on our shoulders it's a short drive but that won't stop
us from having a party in this little red ragtop
ooh days I will never forget
ooh felt like the best of the best / if it's not fun why do it?
getting lost on those back roads driving to his place
printed out directions, but there's no street signs
and his mama don't like me even when I'm on time
but hell the top's down baby / aux cable steady
shuffling all of my favorite songs
see the stars come out at stop lights, shimmy in the moonlight
confusing my left and my right
hair up, high beams, wind around my shoulders
might be a long ride but that won't stop
me from singing my heart out in this little red rag top

Great chorus. You have a very polished vocal sound (imo) and the harmonies are a wonderful addition. Maybe some slide guitar would be a good touch for this one? I like the jangly guitar, you could put some vibrato on the end of those notes to amp up the country too. Good stuff!

add drums and bass to this and this song has got good legs, nice work. Brilliant effort, I've written poetry on a plane, but not a song.
