I love old Methodist hyms because a lot of the chord structures provide a foundation for blues and rock.
I watched a video of Jimmy Swaggart playing piano and out popped these lyrics.
Jimmy Swaggart Blues
Precious Jesus take my hand
Lead me to your promised land
For I tire of my life
And my spirit feels broken
And try to understand
I was once a broken man
I was left by the side of the road
Though the mountains be shaken
And the hills be removed
My unfailing love for you
Will not be shaken
And try to understand
I was once a broken man
I was left by the side of the road
With the light of the rising sun
I know you’re with me once again
I’ll feel the strength and guidance
Of your hand
And try to understand
I was once a broken man
I was left by the side of the road
And with the setting of the sun
I’ll know my journey is at an end
So precious Jesus
Please take my hand
And try to understand
I was once a broken man
I was left by the side of the road
Precious Jesus take my hand
Lead me to your promised land
For I tire of my life
And my spirit feels broken
And try to understand
I was once a broken man
I was left by the side of the road

Hope your moving lyrics find their music.

"I have sinned Lord. I have sinned." Honestly, I thought Jimmy deserved an Emmy for that outstanding theatrical performance produced especially for television. I think these lyrics would fit nicely in a hymnal. Jimmy would be moved. Honestly, this is nice!
