Feb 2022 industrial heavy unexpected-violin

I (Helen) read these as fairly heavy and went industrial rather than metal because the first drumbeat I found that I liked suggested it strongly.
The God of all that grows holds nothing in his hands but dust
We look for life but nothing meets the eye
And any further reaching is an exercise in trust
In those who give their lives to question why
But from our vantage point we took another world as birthright
With every day, and every step we'd learn
Of everything beneath us undetected in its own right
Of all that dwarfs us likewise in return
And like this tiny throng we got to spreading and evolving
We conquered land and sea without resistance
The God of all that grows took swiftest action in resolving
And kept a thousand lifetimes worth of distance
As onward we all fought against our decency and sanity
Until the ones least sane and decent chose
To play the last resort and take the last flag of humanity
And plant it on the God of all that grows
And so we waged our war chests on this most inhuman race
As pride and fear chase us across the stars
But tiny we remain in the immensity of space
And much to small to put a mask on Mars

I did not expect this music from both of you! And I am so happy to listen to Anne Clarke vs. Skinny Puppy. I absolutely love the violin cause it contrasts the heavy lyrics. One of the coolest songs I heard this weekend. #tit4tat

Oh, good choice! I don't hear enough industrial on FAWM. I think the sounds in this backing track work with your voice perfectly, and the acoustic sounding violin interlude is striking as the third sound element that we didn't know we needed but we do - unexpected is exactly right (though I heard the whole song before I saw the tag!)!
Planting the last flag of humanity on the god of all that grows is a fantastic lyric line.
Also I adore this theme of who the heck says we're allowed to be on Mars. I did a two 50/90's about that last summer and had a third one I hadn't gotten to. Really appreciate the artistry with which it's said here.

I love this. Crystal Castles/NIN vibes. Super cool vocal. Then when the violin comes in!!! Beautiful job. These lyrics are inspiring. I've read through it 3 times already trying to make sense of it. Well-written collab you two!! #Tit4Tat

Like sound at outset very industrial and cool. Like ‘unexpected violin’ oh yeah. I’m getting that these words are very clever and we put together snd deserve another read ( but don’t have my glasses!).

Wowza. That is HEAVY. I love that bassline. The rest of it is excellent, but that bassline makes me think of Daleks.
These are such good lyrics. I may have said that already.

I really enjoyed this interpretation. reading the lyrics without music I think it’s an artistic choice and renders the lyrical meaning out really well.
@berni1954 Feb 2022
Great contrast between the melodic violin and the industrial background and the quasi-monotonous delivery of the chanted lyrics really puts the emphasis on these deep and difficult lyrics. Thumbs Up!

Terrific industrial interpretation of Stephen's lyrics. I don't how to describe it, but I love that sound effect that kicks in around the 1:45 time mark.
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Love the dramatic industrial feel that is a wonderful stage for the heaviness of this thought provoking lyric. Wonderful match of words and music.
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
wow, this is impressive, a great marriage of lyric and music and arrangement...quite dramatic, suitable given the lyric, and that violin has such a great contrast with the marching beat and all...
@stephenwordsmith Feb 2022
Wasn't sure at all what sort of song this lyric lent itself to. But this is appropriately grimy and ironclad. Everything stamps and pounds along like factory machinery, then the violin hits you like a canary singing in a mine.
I like the growly, echo-ey sing-talk as well. Seems quite at home in something so dystopian.
I did wonder at the halfway mark whether a verse would be returned to, or we'd just have a long and dramatic denouement. I must say I liked the denouement.

This is very cool, and it really works with Stephen's lyrics. Nice presentation.
@johnnycashpoint Feb 2022
I have no problem with a bit of industrial, especially when it's as pretty as this. Nice interpretation! j$
@kaminokai Feb 2022
Nice. Some really cool Siouxsie Sioux vibes.

I haven't heard this sort of industrial music in a long time. An unexpected setting for Wordsmith's lyrics but it works really well. And the unexpected violin is a lovely instrumentation choice to contrast with the electronic and heavy setting otherwise.
